Missing speed boat with tourists return safely to shore this morning

PHUKET: -- A speed boat with 31 tourists and crews, earlier reported to go missing on its return from Koh Tachai island to Phang Nga shore, returned safely to shore this morning.

Managing director of Love Island Co, service provider of the speed boat, said the speed boat returned safely on shore at 10.00 am today after spending one night on Koh Surin.

He said the speed boat left Koh Tachai at 4.00pm Monday with the tourists but while in the sea it encountered high waves and strong winds.

The boat captain realising of the danger if continued to sail under the rough sea, decided to return to shore.

He sailed the boat safely to Koh Surin where all tourists were facilitated to stay overnight at the Surin marine park accommodations.

The speed boat returned safely to shore at 10.00 am Tuesday, he said.

Not too often you get good news like this. Smart Captain or boat operator, realizes there is danger in continuing and returns to harbor where all passengers are put in a hotel.

Round of applause for the captain,,, must have been some rough crossing for him to head for dry land,,,, any way kudos to the captain and his crew, hope he is officially recognized for what he done might rub off on some others.

I am not sure this report is completely accurate, some crucial information may be missing.

Reading this he acted wisely, but is that really the case?

could be the start of an outbreak of common sense. i assume the island has no cell towers or internet as the captain would have notified about the diversion, or perhaps that idea is a phenomon for 22nd century common sense?

Probably get fired now for causing the boss to lose money.

I also wonder if the captain got a commission for bringing that many tourists to the hotel.

Wish there would be more Thai captains like this in Thailand. Extremely positive news and a spark of hope for Thailand in my opinion. Hope the captain will get a raise or bonus and hopefully the tourists on board realize how lucky they were.

Yes, I think he did exactly what he should have done, and when you consider the usual lack of safety and consideration for the elements, he is to be congratulated.

Please lets not try to find fault when he did the right thing, for goodness sake.

Off course they could also have approached any foreign vlagged vessel, as all these are mandatory fitted with an Automatic Identification System as required by the Thai authorities.

An AIS is not required for Thai vessel regardless if they have foreign tourists on board or not, as these vessels never get lost.
