My wife is a Thai National living in Canada . Her Thai drivers license is expiring soon. I called consulate here and they said she must return to Thailand to renew it. Surely there must be a way around that. Please Help .

Well, I hope there isn't a loophole that allows that.

Why should she get favoured treatment?

But, all is not lost, apparently she has up to 3 years after the Licence expires to visit the Transport Department in Thailand and renew her licence.

If Canada is like many other countries, there is only limited amount of time she can drive legally in Canada on a foreign license anyway, typically 12 months only

so if she is there as a PR might be better getting a Canadian DL

Thx. David is the three year expiry rule stated on any Thai Govt website ? Thx

Mate, I can't write Thai so have never searched for it.

Don't know if an English worded search would reveal it.

My reference was deduced from this long running pinned thread at the top of this forum.
