BANGKOK: -- The Appeals Court yesterday upheld a previous court's 50-year prison sentence for former boxer Surachai "M Ramba" Vivattanachart, and a 10-year jail term for his wife, for the rape of a 25-year-old female employee.

The Appeals Court found the defendants' claims of defence insubstantial and upheld the primary court's decisions.

Surachai, 38, and his 46-year-old wife Thanawan Klaiprae were indicted for the crimes against the employee at their company International Detective Thailand Limited Partnership. The couple wanted to stop her from resigning. The legal complaint stated that from April 19 to August 10, 2008, Surachai had raped the victim many times, recorded the rapes on video and photos, and passed them on to others.

The primary court in March last year initially sentenced the man to an accumulated jail term of 85 years and six months before concluding he would be facing the maximum jail term of 50 years plus Bt1,050 in fines. His wife received a 10-year sentence for helping him with the crimes. The couple appealed against the primary court's verdict.

The victim's lawyer Rassamee Wainetr said she was pleased with the Appeals Court verdict, which gave justice to the victim, who could now return to a normal life in society.

His company seems to be still active though!

He will probably get bail while appealing to the Supreme Court.

Why does their website feature many items, photos and videos which are specifically about the Thai police / police departments / police ceremonies etc?

Are they entangled? How come this company is allowed to put these items on the website of a company? How come the police have not had them removed?

What does the company want or gain from having all these police things on their website?

He's been discussed here before, both for this case and others.

What amazes me is that this guy can beat his wife and shoot up a police station with an AK47 and still walk around free to rape the girl in this last case.

I guess if you are the son of a general, you get several "get out of jail free" cards. Hopefully he has used them all up by now!
