Hog Badgers

Apparently Hog badgers are common throughout Thailand, however I have never seen one in all the years I've been hear. Badgers in the UK get a really bad press about being carriers of TB, and have been culled.

Interested to hear on others experience of Badgers and Badgers in Thailand? Are they dangerous? Are they a TB threat? What other types of Badger maybe in Thailand?

I've seen some type of small badger frequently mountain biking up in the hills. I always thought they were honey badgers but I guess they might be hog badgers. They are normally waddling up the trail as fast as they can to get away. Also saw one chasing a rabbit once on a motorycycle trip with the wife.

Honey Badgers, that would also be an interesting spotting, maybe there have been some that have been released into the wild? A fairly aggressive type of Badger by all accounts

T_dog, the give away as to whether its a honey badger or not, is if said mammal tries to remove your testicles/penis with a single bite, if this occurs its a honey badger, ask Costa's all about this

I Know that 6th July is N.G.D., but as far as I can tell, there is not a special day for the larger types of rodents

I have to be honest and say "I don't know" with regards to National Honey Badger Day. It may well be celebrated in the countries of origin. Someon with more experience of said beast maybe able to give us some further info

I have to admit that I am an expert on milking all kinds of mammals, but my soft spot is ferrets.

I believe they are everywhere in Thailand looking for scraps and not very difficult to spot them.

But they can be very cute and tamed creatures.

I would advice everybody to get one as a pet...........can be very rewarding.

PS. Sorry, being out of topic, but what has happened to Gayllips?

The chances of TB are fair. However, it is difficult to contract from an animal unless you eat the meat raw. TB baccilus is killed at fairly low temperatures (around 68 degrees, so as long as you don't eat infected meat medium rare, you should be ok.)

It is a good question if they are really a problem in the UK, or if the problem is complete inflated because someone want to hunt them.

In Austria they are hunting the foxes because of the rabies. Which is complete nonsense. But no one likes to hunt badgers so they have neither rabies nor TB.

I wouldn't be overly afraid of them. But would never touch them or let them get close to anything you may touch. If get bitten I would be afraid of everything rabies, TB, Hepatitis and bacterial infections.....Justified or not....I don't know.

If I see them riding a bicycle I would seriously re-thing if I should stop with the lao-kao....

David48, if we are lucky you might get a link to a Costa in a skirt with a badger top on, riding a bicycle pulling along a milking machine. If the said skirt wearer is going commando you might need to get Charlie to censor the picture first.

Though I am not sure if this has anything to do with the topic of badgers, honey(s) and strange diseases.

If you are having problems with things in your backpassage a good cleansining and bleach might deal with the problem, thus negating the need for a Honey Badger

to be fair, I don't think an irate Doberman or two would be much of a challenge for the likes of Zuma, throw in a couple of king cobra's as well and he might be interested...
