Morning all,

I was working as a teacher with a school up until mid September(6 months).I decided that this particular school wasn't for me and left on good terms to pursue a different job.

The school said I could stay on the visa and they wouldn't cancel it. They made mention about getting money for me so would put it towards school books etc etc. This put me off immediately changing over to a tourist visa while I looked for a new job. Now my 3 month stamp is over and I'm now having problems as they aren't commmunicating with me and I'm told I'll need a letter to exit at nonkai to exit and change my visa to a tourist double in Laos.

What kind of Visa did you start with, Non B single, Non B Multi entry, did you report to Imm at the end of three months and get an extension of stay which is not a visa.

Sorry the post was a bit unclear.

It is non b and this would be my first time signing my residence in immigration if I was still employed with the school.

There is no mention of single or multiple in the passport so I would assume its single only!

Looks like I have two options:

Fly to Vientienne and apply for tourist.

Convert visa at Cambodian border via a visa service then exit to Laos to apply for a new double entry tourist.

If you are on an extension of stay from immigration it ended on the day your employment ended.

What need from the school is a letter stating you are no longer working effective on or after the date you leave the country.

Yes ubonjoe your right! However this school and my ex boss is rather difficult to communicate with. Getting my original visa and work permit resulted in multiple trips back and forth when lack of paperwork was continually given. I even had to get a 7 day ext because they couldn't produce the paperwork in time previously.

I've got no chance of them producing this.

You can fly out and they will not ask for the letter.

Some border crossings don't ask for it either. You could try going to Savannakhet to get your tourist visa. I have seen no reports of Mukdahan immigration asking for the letter.

Ok thanks guys! In reality I know I should of exited as soon as I left but when the school said I would be doing them a favour...I didn't realize it would be at my expense!

Lesson learned!
