overstaying visa

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm leaving Thailand to go back to Australia over Christmas for a few weeks where I plan on applying for a new 1 year ED visa. I currently have a departure date stamp of 13th of Nov in my passport and my current visa has expired in October. I have my flight home booked for the 27th of Nov. I figure I can just pay the overstay fee of 500 a day when departing but i wanted to know if this 15 or so day over stay would affect me getting a new visa? i.e would I Or alternatively would i be best doing a quick visa run, re enter with the automatic 30 day entry till my flight home.

thank you :)

Why not just go to immigration and get a 30 day extension (I think it's 30, used to be 7)

It does not prevent you from getting a new visa, but staying legal is the best way. I would advise making a border run giving you another 15 days by land or 15 by air.

At 500 baht per day overstay fine a border run would cost less than the 7000 baht fine for your overstay. Plus you would not have the risk of being caught with overstay.

Is it down to 15 again? I thought they put it back up to the original 30 days!

Only those from the G7 countries get 30 days. All others get 15 days.

So it is possible to do a border run and get 30 days, without a visa? I am from a G7 country. I thought the rules changed and they stopped all the land crossings without a visa. Thanks

As answered to you in other threads.. that is not the case.
