Surin spends nine million baht producing food for elephants

The northeastern province of Surin has allocated a budget of nine million baht for the growing of crops that are food of elephants.

Governor Sompong Anuyuthapong (สมพงษ์ อนุยุทธพงศ์) said the objectives are to solve the problem of keepers bringing their elephants to big cities to beg for money and to turn villages that raise elephants into tourist attractions

Mr. Sompong said grass, banana, sugarcane, pineapple and some other plants will be grown in about 400 rai of land to be used as elephant food.
