March 18, 200422 yr Owners urged to register pets BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is encouraging owners of dogs, cats, fowl, elephants, cattle, sheep, goats and camels in the capital to register their animals with district offices by April 16. Padung Sutecha, the administration’s livestock chief, said the registered animals would be entitled to assistance in case of disease outbreaks, while the unregistered ones would receive none. He said the move to register these animals was in line with Agriculture Ministry policy. The registration began yesterday. The government will not legally punish owners who fail to register their animals. Padung said owners of fighting cocks could come forward to district offices if they wanted the government to bear the cost of implanting microchips in their gamecocks. --The Nation 2004-03-18
