Talking to ones self.......

Featured Replies

Hi, do any other Thai learners find that they talk to themselves more frequently and very much more in public I have found myself repeating certain words out loud to practise what tone to use, this is especially true after I have finished a lesson/been studying/learned a new word/or suddenly had a eureka moment with a phrase...........my OH also regularly catches me talking, he thinks I'm talking to him and then when he asks me what did I say, I have to admit I was talking to myself.........I used to think others were a little disturbed if I saw strangers doing the same, but now I am at ease with talking to myself.......anyone do this

Yeah I do it sometimes, usually just in my head, but sometimes out loud, although usually under my breath and thus barely audible.

Often when I'm speaking in English, I think about how I would phrase the sentence if I were instead speaking in Thai. And so I do much the same even when I'm thinking in English, I rephrase the sentence in Thai (In my head), then sometimes I will say it to myself (If the situation allows).

I have and do do this. It has funny results when people catch you. Although I think people on the street must think I am crazy

For me this manifests itself most often when behind the wheel, cursing fellow road users in a wide variety of half-Thai, half-English profanities that are too rude to be listed in this forum.

As for talking to yourself 'in general', I wouldn't worry about it too much since everyone seems to be so glued to their iPad these days that few will notice.

I sing to myself. It helps me with the tones.

I'm not really concerned with what others think - I'm sure they have their own quirks.

I talk to myself all the time in both Thai and English, but it has nothing to do with learning a language. Staff in the office where I work are always ribbing me about it.

when going through a serious Thaitay and P' Joe phase I was free styling constantly, very funny, yet effective
