Popular Post ianf
I'll be honest here. I'm on my third. The first was Chinese Thai, a Bangkok graduate from a wealthy family. I met her through business connections in Bangkok. Knew her for a year and everything seemed so hunky-dory. Sadly, here family were pleased to see the back of her as it transpired. Within a year of her moving to the UK i discovered she was a sociopath. I tried my best to make it work over a 10-year period but she got worse and worse. Life was a nightmare. In the end we divorced and that's when she turned really nasty. Well, a year later I met a graduate civil-engineer. Not good-looking by any means. But she was a lovely lady to me and my son and was looking forward to going to the UK. I've posted about her before under an alias I gave her for Thai Visa "Ami" or "Amy" (I forget which). Four years were OK, then she wanted to move to Thailand. OK> I sold the business and we came here. It didn't take her long to start her games and it took me even longer to realise what those games were. She lied and cheated and stole. Even now, she goes back to the UK spreading a tissue of lies about me. Sadly for her, she's now the mae noi of a guy who she thinks is wealthy. However, this guy has destroyed his family's precarious finances by taking out 6 credit cards and using the proceeds to the max to woo this woman and keep her in the manner to which she thinks she deserves. A vicious and nasty piece of work. Unfortunately this horrible piece of work still lives in the same city and is employed in a senior government post. So I can't name her!!!!!! You would of thought I'd learnt my lesson (Regrets, said Sinatra, I've had a few ...) But I met the current wife quite by accident and whilst I was preparing my escape from Thailand. I have seen no evidence of any bad behaviour. Her direct family have never asked for money; she really cannot stand liars and thieves; she hates bars and alcohol but she is supportive of the lives of bar girls who are often forced (often by circumstances) into their present role. She doesn't like Louis Vuitton (either real or fake) and is happy to spend 200 baht on a handbag in the market. She has a good heart and she helps people a lot. I have made mistakes in the past and I went into this with my eyes wide open. She's a simple country girl but one who was a good athlete and a hard worker. So far it's been all good news for 3.5 years. I'm legally covered (belts and braces) in case anything goes wrong .... but somehow, I think, after a few false starts, that this lady will be with me until I pop my clogs. The worst thing about her is that she lives in Thailand. If I had not met her I could have left this awful country. But I'm still here, moaning away! So a long answer to a short question. It probably demonstrates the stupidity of some men (me!) but on the other hand ....I'm happy. Edited November 24, 2014 by ianf

smotherb
One thing I am 100% sure of....IF, and I hope not, I need to find another wife, she will NOT have kid baggage......100% sure... It's shopping. Decide what you want, what features you want, look about, and accept no less. Shopping is half the fun. For sure, but in this day and age, phones, handbags, AND partners seem to go out of fashion pretty quick............... A loving woman with money never goes out of style. GarryP
One for 26 years. Single again now but not by choice. and me! me too 1st time around. shackled for over 20 years to the same one, then came freedom We should form a private club, "The 20+ year and dumped club" I did meet a Canadian guy that had been fleeced and dumped after 35 years of marriage. That record would be hard to beat! Actually, when I said single but not by choice, it was not due to divorce. My wife passed away unfortunately. MiKT
First there was the mad Irish mother-in-law wife, then the bottom of the bottle Zim wife (good diver, but hated oysters) and then the bloody sick buffalo wife for the last 20 years (god the outlay I have laid out those animals - not to mention the dogs) if only I had known what I know now. I could have had at least 6 Cambodian wives, a couple of Laotians, a Burmese or 3 and one of those with the gold rings round the neck. One of these days I am going to un-nail my foot from the floor and mosey on down to a Soi Buakhao massage parlour for the last rites. Sigh. Jip99
Not sure if this has been covered already but do you actually have to have been married to the Thai wife - or is it literally how many Thai wives have you "had". Nil to the first part, several if the second criteria.

Mudcrab
Just the one......not much to look at...but she has wonderful personalities. Nice to know. 'wonderful personalities' do sometimes need some medical assistance. Was this a naturally occurring event ... \-/ she was normal...just the one personality....until she met me!! I have that effect on people. Edited November 24, 2014 by Mudcrab

Mot Dang
I was married for 8 years in Australia to a falang, but that in the end just didn't work. We married too young. After living two years in Thailand I married a lovely Issan girl, and that was 34 years ago and we are still together. However, 4 years ago I unintentionally entered a relationship with a much younger woman from the South. They now know about each other and it is accepted that she is my "Mia Noi". I look after them both (and their families) very well, there is no friction and life is sweet. For those who have lived in Thailand as long as I have, it is known that having a mia noi is quite acceptable to Thai society, and is an age-old practice. But as long as you look after both, If you don't your just seen by most Thais as a bum, just another slum-falang. But I wont be shy, it does that take above average money to do it, and budgeting for two families, which I am prepared to do. "Why have one when you can have two at twice the price".
