Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen left here on Sunday for Vientiane, the capital city of Laos, to attend the 8th Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam (CLV) Summit on Development Triangle Area, which is slated for Monday and Tuesday.

The prime minister was accompanied by Defense Minister Gen. Tea Banh, Commerce Minister Sun Chanthol, Transport Minister Tram Iv Tek, Agriculture Minister Ouk Rabun, and Secretary General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia Sok Chenda Sophea, as well as governors of provinces in the triangle area.

CLV Triangle Area, which comprises 13 provinces including four in Cambodia, four in Laos and five in Vietnam, is aimed at accelerating economic growth, eliminating poverty, promoting social and cultural progress. "In the last decade, the triangle area has developed remarkably and the living conditions of the peoples in the area have improved through public and private investments in roads, bridges, irrigation system, energy and clean water,"Sry Thamarong, minister attached to Prime Minister Hun Sen, told reporters at Phnom Penh International Airport before departure.

He said the summit would be an opportunity for CLV leaders to review achievements in the past years and determine future direction for further development in the Triangle Area. "Moreover, the summit will further enhance cooperation among CLV countries in maintaining security along the border and fighting cross-border crimes,"he said.

Geographical provinces of the triangle area are Cambodia's Steng Treng, Rattanakiri, Mondulkiri and Kratie, Laos' Salavan, Sekong, Attapeu and Champasak and Vietnam's Gialai, Daclac, Dacnong, Kontum and Binh Phuoc.

This is a small (and poor) area at the junction of Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, a few hundred km from Thailand.
