Winter winds knocking rice plants down in Northeast

MAHA SARAKHAM, 26 November 2014 (NNT)-The northeastern region of Thailand is still coping with water shortages and gusty winds that have knocked most of the rice plants down.

More than 200 farmers in Maha Sarakham province rushed to their paddy fields, helping each other harvesting what remains on the plantations as winter winds have become stronger.

In Uthai Thani, provincial governor Somchai Lertpongpakorn has instructed relevant units to be prepared for drought crisis. Mr. Somchai cautioned that this dry season could be worse than ever due to a small amount of water stored in Uthai Thani’s major reservoirs.

Farmers have been reiterated not to grow off-season rice at this time of the year in order to save water for people badly affected by the drought.

Every year. A bit late though with this article. Been happening here for a month or so.

Same, same here (west of Khon Kaen).

Much of the rice is knocked down for quite a while.

Farmers still waiting for their time slot with the harvesting machine.

First harvesters in 3 weeks spotted yesterday. 4 hours of steady rain early this morning. Farmers not happy.
