I know this may seem like a stupid question but, I've been here enough times to know there is no such thing as a stupid question with regards to immigration and borders here as it changes so often.

Can I do a visa run at Mae Sot? I have a multi-entry tourist visa...just need to pop over a border and back to start my next entry and thought I'd explore Tak area for fun while I was at it. I've done this at Mae Sai without issue, just want to hear from anyone who's done it at Mae Sot recently. Hate to drive all the way there to find out I'm not allowed to cross for whatever reason.

Thanks in advance!

No problem, I think.

That drive over the hill from Tak to Maisot is pretty dangerous.

There have been a lot of accidents and you need to know that up some of the hills, the slow moving trucks are in the right hand lane and expect you to pass them on the inside.

Have a good trip.

The Mae Sot crossing was closed some time ago because of unrest in the area. Has it now reopened? Has anybody used it recently?

But the topic is about Mae Sot (in Tak province).

Hahaha

So it is, I misread. Well, I dunno then. Mae Sai is fine though biggrin.png

In math, any number larger than 1 is a multiple. So 2 and 3 are multiples, multiples of one. To some it's easier to say "multiple' than be specific and by definition they are "multiple" entry visas, since 2 and 3 are multiples, but only marked with the actual number of entries allowed!

Nobody has answered the actual question, Is Mae Sot open for border runs? Does anybody have any recent experience with this crossing?

there are no multi entry tourist visa's only 1,2 or 3 entry tourist visa's

Let's hope that this will not trigger again someone to claim that these are mathematically proven to be multiple entry visa rolleyes.gif

This sounds workable for me.... I am happy to hear that Mae Sot is open again. I am on a Non Imm Multi 'O'. It is my last Exit / Entry --- Enter Before Date is 15 December... I do not have onward ticketing after this final 90 days run out. But the onward ticketing thing seems to be directed just to Tourist Visas -- correct?

With this last Out and In I will get about 15 months total on this one year Visa -- first entry 16 January 2014... I will probably opt for an Extension of Stay based on Retirement in January 2015... But may return to Texas in March for a few months to tend to some minor problems with my Motor Home. Get another Non Imm 'O' and come back...

With my option for changing to an Extension of Stay based on Retirement - does anyone think that I could counter a demand for onward ticketing with that information?

You will not be asked to show a ticket out and you will not be asked for when applying for an extension.

You cna apply for an extension 30 to 45 days before the permisison to stay ends, so in Feb. 2015 if you get a new entry before Dec. 15.

If you apply for an extension, you can apply for a re-entry permit to cover your visit to the States. In that case you do not need a new visa.

I hit the reply button first. In addition to a math lesson it was an attempt to get the thread back on topic with a positive answer finally supplied in post number 11.

I did a in-out in Mae Sot 3 weeks ago. No problem. Saw another guy get into it at the departure window because he didn't have proof of onward travel. Depends on the officer's mood I think.

Thanks Johnny! And everyone else for the comments as well.

Yes, triple entry visa...60 days is up. Yes, I know I can extend but, I can only extend once due to my "must enter by date" (got the visa quite a bit in advance of the trip as I was concerned whether or not I would be given one the way things are going).

Cheers!

Excellent -- thank you Mario
