I couldnt find it either so improvised.

I first used the white temple string and used to plait 3or 4 strands together.

Now i use traditional brown string but still plait 3 together.

Soak them in veggie oil and they burn well.

But now we buy a bag of pork fat dripping from the market. Works great though now the fat at night turns to lard....until the sun comes out.

It strange how ideas can change and develop by having to make do.

There are small lamps on sale around Baan Tawai. Don't know if they're oil/paraffin/kero lamps, but a nice morning out on weekdays.

Also a good place to stock up on gifts for trips home, as they're half the price of the night markets.

You could try one of the many buddhist shops. They sell all sizes of candles and lanterns.

Or maybe the little shop inside the old city. On the southern, inner moat, turn left at the last gate (where the market is) and after about 20m take an immediate right. Shop is on your right.

re

Where can I find this kind of wick? It's for a tiki-torch. It could also be used in small oil lamps

try the oil lamp shop in wararot market :)

go down chiang moi road to the wararot market entrance arch and turn left

go along about 75 yards and theres an oil lamp shop on the corner of the first soi on the right !
