I had mine done at Bumrungrad hospital. Probably a little more expensive than many, but their standards are very very high and my surgeon was Harvard trained. I thoroughly recommend them.

Normal cost at private hospitals seems to run from about 35k to 60k for single eye with mono vision lens (considerably higher for premium lens types). It is a very common procedure done everywhere and by many doctors. In fact government just announced plans to perform 60,000 such operations free of charge.

Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bkk is not the cheapest place but probably the one with the most expertise.

But wherever you go, it is the selection of the doctor that matters most, not of the hospital.

There have been many threads on this is the recent past, do a search in this forum and you'll find lots of first hand reports and mentions of specific doctors.

Hi i had my cataract op followed 6 months later by a secondary cataract op a ''Nd:YAG posterior capsulotomy'' due to clouding in the eye, performed in The UK, so no idea of costings in Thailand.

regarding recovery, immediately after the op you have near perfect vision in the operated eye, a plastic eye cap has to be worn for a few days for sleeping, other than that bending down should be avoided, as should carrying heavy objects, if working in an office back to work within a few days, construction work about a month due to dirt and dust, eye drops have to be taken for a few weeks, the secondary Lasar op is everything back to normal next day.

Both op's as well as a retina detachment op i had previously, are carried out while awake and painless,

My retina detachment was carried out at the EENT hospital in Bangkok, excellent service and price way below Bangkok hospital Rayong here - http://www.eent.co.th/home.html

all the best

Hi

How much $ and do you have the doctors name?

How long for recovery doing one eye?

Two years ago now, so suggest you contact them on internet for any info.

I had eyes checked one day, walked into hospital 12pm next day, walked out at 4 pm with one eyepatch, went back next day for the other, no time at all really. Incidentally, when i woke up next day, i unconciously started rubbing my eye, told the surgeon who looked at it and said , no problems ...........free of charge !

Good luck !

What about the doctors name? Like was written, Doctors are the most important factor, not only hospital.

Suspect they will select from normal applicants at government hospitals - just read a press report on it this week so might be able to find with Google search[ but do not recall any details other than it seemed to match the number in one year. Was being done for Kings birthday so just published I believe yesterday.
