Can DIP (ดิบ) and SOT (สด) both mean 'raw' (uncooked)?

I would say dip would be raw and sot สด, would be fresh ,the example I can think of is our local ตลาดสด,fresh market selling, ปลาสด,fresh fish ,but at our local milk dairy co-op they would refer ,to fresh milk as นํ้านมดิบ,raw milk,before it is sent to the factory to be pasteurised.which I suppose correctly, it is.

a. raw

b. uncooked

c. unripe

SOT is shown as:

a. fresh

b. raw (uncooked)

So, from your comments, I assume that both of these words can mean 'raw'.

I'm pretty sure that ดิบ and สด are interchangeable. As an example, I've heard the raw version of ลาบ (laab/larb/laap) called both ลาบดิบ (laab dip)and ลาบสด (laab sot).

The distinction between the two words is fairly subtle. Looking at the Royal Institute Dictionary (my rough translation - sorry for the clumsy English):

ดิบ ยังไม่สุก เช่น มะม่วงดิบ, ยังไม่สุกด้วยไฟ เช่น เนื้อดิบ ข้าวดิบ

DIP Not yet ripe, for example, unripe mango. Not yet cooked by fire such as uncooked meat, uncooked rice.

สด ใหม่ ใช้แก่ลักษณะของสิ่งต่าง ๆ ที่ได้มาหรือผลิตขึ้นใหม่ ๆ

SOT New. [used for] various things retaining the old (original) quality that they had when first obtained or made.

ดิบ คือ ยังไม่สุกด้วยไฟ

DIP that is to say not yet cooked by fire

ไม่แห้งหรือหมักดองเป็นต้น เช่น น้ำพริกผักสด ผลไม้สด น้ำตาลสด

Not dried or preserved are examples. E.g. NAM PHRIK with fresh (SOT) vegetables, fresh (SOT) fruit, fresh (SOT) sugar.

เบียร์สด ขนมจีนแป้งสด.

fresh (SOT) beer, KHANOM CHIN made with newly milled (SOT) flour.

So, in certain circumstances SOT is a synonym for DIP.

DIP means unripe referring to fruits, and uncooked or undercooked referring to meat.

Yep, draft/draught beer is เบียร์สด biia-sòt
