arthurwait
So the amount of exported rice suddenly doubled to 10 million tonnes ? Thrown in the sea ?
umbanda
The PM already asked farmers not do a second crop. Be the largest exporter also means overproduction and low prices....... Rice may be a good deal for exporters and resellers, but it is not a good deal for farmers. Many other countries can beat Thailand in producing rice, like Vietnam, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia and specially China, but are replacing the plantations with more profitable products. Vietnam is going to be one of the larger coffee producer countries very soon, and China is heading in that direction too. Brazil was the numer one coffee, soy, and sugar producer in the world many years ago. Not anymore. Instead, become one of of the world emerging economies after diversification, and the number one producer of etanol from sugar cane......running 50% of cars in the country, and the one on gasohol . maidee
"He added that the stockpiled rice would be sold or exported as quickly as possible as grains are perishable goods." so why are they stockpiles for years & years & years ? me thinks that this good news show is rather strange ... suddenly they are nr 1 again
rickirs
The Junta has come a long way since July 2014 on its rice audits to sell-off the pledged rice stockpile: RICE-PLEDGING SCHEME '80% of rice is fine' The Nation July 29, 2014 "Only 10 per cent of rice stockpiles has spoiled and only some sacks were missing, while 80 per cent was in still good condition, the rice inspection committee reported to the Rice Policy Committee meeting yesterday. The audit of 18 million tonnes of pledged rice stored in granaries has progressed by 72 per cent to 1,290 out of 1,787 locations nationwide." RICE-PLEDGING SCHEME'Nationwide rice audit ordered by Junta nearly complete' The Nation 2July 29, 2014 "The Commerce Ministry is preparing to resume selling rice from its stocks early next month, gradually in small lots, at the rate of about 500,000 tonnes a month." pattayasnowman
Almost 100% more than their closest rivals India ? Exporting or "dumping" to get rid of the stockpile? I suppose if you're getting rid of what you have it's still classed as " exporting" Now the key question of course would be " what price did they get for that 10 million tonnes compared to what the India exports made? Fair play they have regained top spot but quality over quantity is also very important too. "I suppose if you're getting rid of what you have it's still classed as " exporting". " That's what every country in the world does, if you don't have you can't export it. "Now the key question of course would be " what price did they get for that 10 million tonnes compared to what the India exports made?" That would be a question for a different survey. The price is irrelevant when the question is how many tonnes were exported. The figures would probably be meaningless to you anyway as you think that 10 million is "almost 100% more" than 4.8 million. India and Thailand as all the exporters get basically the same price. Its the world price arrived at on the open market Rice, 5 percent broken milled white rice, Thailand nominal price quote, US Dollars per Metric Ton has average $415 for 2014
Thai at Heart
The Indians stopped exporting. Ironically someone had a huge amount of stock able to take up the slack. Imagine how high the prices would have gone if there hadn't been all that stock.....
slapout
The bank of agriculture is on record as they furnished funds for 42 million tons in the first 1 and 1/2 year of the rice scam, Thai exports of rice since start of the rice scam is about 6 million ton for each of the 1st and 2 nd year and now a claimed 10 million this year total 22 million they are touting 17 million ton in storage. so total rice accounted for less a paltry 200 thound ton missing is right at 41 million tons. What happened to the last 1 1/2 years purchase/production or is it the first years, of rice purchased by the Thai government from the farmers of Thailand?????? Its not possible to have that much (missing rice) in storage in additional to storage claims of 17 million ton.. we are looking at/for somewhere in the range of 40 million tons, at around 450 us dollars/ton. This would appear to be in addition to the 30 to 40 billion dollars already unaccounted for in what may be a world record scam of 80 billion dollars over less than 3 years by a handful of slimballs who should be exicuited as a group with live telivison coverage. worldwide.
