MacBook Pro, and iMac, buy now or wait?

I am in the process of upgrading my computers, was thinking about a new MacBook pro and a new iMac.

Anyone knows if there is a new iMac and Macbook pro soon to be released so I should wait?

Or are the new currently available models the best technology there is for a near future?

I just upgraded to the new Retina 5k iMac 27 yesterday and it is a beauty. Using Time Machine everything on my seven year old iMac 24 was painlessly moved to the new machine and was up and running last night. This screen is absolutely amazing, making everything look brighter, sharper and clearer. I am also pleased with how much faster it is.

Yeah, I bet it must be a pretty good upgrade from an iMac from 2007. Did you just connect the time machine to the new iMac?

Did it not create any problems with system software applications from the time machine from your old iMac to the new iMac system software application

I was already running Yosemite on the old iMac so there were no problems at all with the upgrade using Time Machine.

The Macbook, iMac, and Mac Mini ranges where updated only 1.5 months ago. The next refresh is detailed in the link above, but don't hold your breath as the Broadwell chips have been delayed several times already.

Ok, sounds good, what was the upgrade 1,5 month ago about, was it something of importance?

CPU's updated, more storage options, the iMac5K, and of course Yosemite.

If you want a little more flexibility and portability than the iMac, consider the mac mini. It's cheaper and works great with large screen TVs.

PS: I have both. But, I seem to be using the mini more because of the extra, extra large screen. smile.png

Be careful if ordering a Mac Mini, apparently you cannot upgrade RAM, on the newer machines, so be sure to get what you need especially for Yosemite, 8 gb RAM recommended... wink.png

Hello All, with the newer mini's with the built in power supply, you just turn the bottom panel to

gain access to the RAM, very easy to change, up to 16 gb. The older mini's with a plug in power

supply, you had to do the putty knife disassembly to get to the RAM.

Got my 8 gb from OWC, no problem.

So for example:

The 3,2 Ghz quad core intel core i5, 1 TB hard drive is the upgraded iMac?

The 2,8 Ghz dual core intel i5, 512 GB mac book pro is the upgraded macbook pro?

All Mac Mini's were updates with faster CPU's, more base RAM, and more HDD options.

The MBP's got a small speed boost and double RAM, but the base Retina model lost it's GeForce graphics card.

So, how did you do it. You just connected the time machine to the new iMac and all the applications, files, documents, etc just got installed automatically?

Yes, it was pretty much that simple. Just selected the Time Machine option on the installation screen and it did everything else. I didn't lose anything and all my preferences were the same.
