Bob Chittie
Does anyone know what 'Agre Dhavati Dhavati' means? (Its a long story). Thanks. bob
The Ghost of Phoolan Devi
It's Sanskrit, not Hindi. Agre = at the front, forward Dhavati = procedes, advances, runs, also: attacks Agre dhavati dhavati = he/one advances steadily to the fore, or suchlike. Bob Chittie
Thanks very much Ghost. I apologize for my ignorance. So 'advancing steadily to the front'? Could you use it in a context? Thanks!
The Ghost of Phoolan Devi
No problem. This very phrase is part of a Hindu shloka: "Purva jamnarjitam vidya, purva janmarjitam dhanam, agre dhavati dhavati". Check up the translations on the these links www.acbspn.com/ekadashis/parama.htm www.bvml.org/books/SB/05/14.html Mind you that Sanskrit has often very multi-layered meanings and translations are often also "interpretations". But I think you'll get the gist from these links. Uff, wish my Sanskrit wasn't that rusty! Cheers TGoPD
