pbay
What I also find funny are all the people on here saying torture is ok because it gets the info but the facts is it did not get any info, maybe they should have tried to read the actual article first before commenting. There are plenty of other articles and Intelligence professionals that say otherwise and it is no secret that Bin Ladin was found as result of waterboarding. http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/former-cia-lawyer-rizzo-defends-waterboarding-decision-a-986087.html The actual report released today says you are wrong. The report said harsh CIA interrogations produced much bad information, including fake story about al-Qaeda recruiting African-Americans. It said the interrogations were ineffective and never produced information that led to foiling of "imminent terror threat". According to many US officials who have read the report, the document alleges that the harsh interrogations failed to produce unique and life-saving intelligence. http://www.aljazeera.com/news/americas/2014/12/us-releases-cia-torture-report-2014129122456718264.html Bin Laden was not found due to waterboarding. chuckd
As far as I am concern, do whatever you have to do to get information from these terrorist to save innocent peoples lives. And the hell with their civil rights, they have none. I guess your comment applies to ALL countries? And the 'likes' too apply universally? What makes you possibly think they are not already doing it?

Here is what the committee wrote about the claims in the film. The CIA did not first learn about the existence of the UBL courier from CIA detainees subjected to coercive interrogation techniques. Nor did the CIA discover the courier's identity from CIA detainees subjected to coercive techniques. No CIA detainee reported on the courier's full name or specific whereabouts, and no detainee identified the compound in which UBL was hidden. Instead, the CIA learned of the existence of the courier, his true name, and location through means unrelated to the CIA detention and interrogation program. Senator McCain,a committee member stated on the Senate floor: "It was not torture, or cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment of detainees that got us the major leads that ultimately enabled our intelligence community to find Osama bin Laden." McCain added: "In fact, not only did the use of 'enhanced interrogation techniques' on Khalid Sheik Mohammed not provide us with the key leads on bin Laden's courier, Abu Ahmed; it actually produced false and misleading information." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/marjorie-cohn/zero-dark-thirty-fact-check_b_2452721.html So all I can say is do not get your history from Hollywood movies.. Ulic
Neither side has the moral high ground. The race is to the bottom. The US bombing civilians in Laos and Cambodia killing hundreds of thousands, the Vietnam war itself. The Wests support of Pol Pot. The CIA's involvement in regime change in Iran, and South and Central America in the 70's. Protecting US access to cheap oil from the middle east has shaped US foreign policy there for the past 70 years. We shall see what happens now middle east oil is far less important. Crazy Muslim fundamentalists reminding me of the crusades when crazy Christian zealots pillaged and plundered. The more things change the more they remain the same. Leave the middle east to sort its own religious conflicts out I say. North Africa as well.

Your whole movie premise is silly and reflects a lot more about you, than me. I read "The Finish: The Killing of Osama Bin Laden" by investigative journalist Mark Bowden as well as numerous newspaper articles by other writers. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta admitted that some of the information that was used to locate and kill Osama bin Laden was attained using waterboarding and he would know. You are now just denying reality.. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta admitted that information that was used to locate and kill Osama bin Laden was attained using waterboarding. arjunadawn
There is another thread currently that deals roughly with the same topic regarding this dangerous and politically expedient report being released. I answered a piece of my soul in the other thread but would comment here only this: "If you want to know what will ever happen next with regard to America, regarding nearly any topic, consider what is good for America, and what is bad for America. What is bad for America will be chosen every single time." I know this for the same reason I know the sun will rise tomorrow; it seems like it always has (at least for the past 6 years!) sgtsabai
Juan Cole is a patriot. Did you read it? Torture is wrong, always has been, always will be. Please take time to listen to a right wing hero, Mr. "bomb, bomb". I know most wont like what he has to say, and certainly won't listen to the next speaker, but listen to him. http://www.c-span.org/video/?323106-7/senators-mccain-rockefeller-cia-interrogations
Wat dee
We haven't given even one tenth measure of torture back to the terrorists; water boarding is a justifiable means of extracting information from these scumbags. When we start beheading, then they can call it equality of terrorist tactics. Until then, I do not give a darn what we do to kill these terrorist murderers and all their buddies in the Middle East, but for liberals in Washington to publish our interrogation tactics is just wrong and our muslim president does not care who he puts more into harms way. The only way to defeat terrorists is to keep killing them, but we will never kill them all; just too many of these haters around the world. What goes around comes around. Why not supply these "terrorists" with drones, choppers, missiles etc. so they could lay down their swords. Sword kills one at the time, missile whole kindergarten. Waiting for the comes around.
