Tourist Visa entry refusal at immigration?

Featured Replies

Good morning,

Question: Does anyone has ever been refused at Don Muang Airport Immigration with a valid new Tourist Visa (not a re-entry)?

Situation:

My friend Vietnamese national, will be entering Don Muang airport with a new tourist visa. She already has couple back stamps:

- Tourist visa 2 months stayed 2 months Mid october Mid december

- Visa exemption stayed 2 weeks in September

- Education visa Stayed 7 months Dec 2013 June 2014

She has proof of substantial money in Europe and in Thailande (more than 250,000 in thai account, money coming from Europe) and she does not work.

After few posts on the forum about issues with Vietnamese national having problem to enter the territory, i wonder if you would have any info about it?

Thanks a lot for your help.

I don't recall anybody being turned away with a valid tourist visa.

I suggest she have 20k baht or the equivalent in an exchangeable currency in cash in case she is asked to show it.

Thanks a lot Ubonjoe to constantly help us. She will have the necessary cash with her.

With best regards.

I second what Ubonjoe has stated. No problems with a return ticket and enough cash to show. Cash could be in any currency that is later converted to THB, though the THB figure is used as a guide by immigration. Even better might be to change 20000 THB in Vietnam before travelling. The exchange rates over there are just as good as in Bangkok, and it's a lot easier for a local from Saigon or Hanoi to find a place to change their VND to THB than to find a place to do the same in less familiar and much larger BKK.

Good morning,

I just wanted to give you a feedback after her arrival:

The immigration staff started by looking at all the past stamps, then called an officer as the staff did not want to allow the entrance. The officer said to the immigration staff: whatever her past stamps, she has a proper tourist visa, also let her come in. My friend got her two months stamp.

It was a Don Muang Airport yesterday evening time.

If it can help. Have a nice day :)

Was she asked to show 20.000B?

No, but better have the 20,000 THB, just in case

Vietnamese are more likely to have problems entering Thailand even after a few visa free entries than other nationalities. Because your friend had a visa, it was OK, but without one she might have been refused.
