But be aware that if you go to two days overstay you will be charged for both.

I am careful to write you will not be fined for an overstay of less than 24 hours at either airport in Bangkok. Some of the other airports in the country may charge for the overstay.

There has never been a 2 day allowance that I now of. I have a 24 hour overstay stamp in an old passport done in 1996.

I was fined for a one day overstay when departing from Samui, but that was 3 years ago.

These things change. Frequently. And then change back again.

If you're lucky you may escape fine for overstay less than 24hrs but in my experience its not consistent especially at phuket. 2 days overstay is 1000B fine, no ifs or buts

You will not know until you get to the desk,They took 500 Bht off me because the plane departure was 45 minutes into the next day as I was still in Thailand I was on overstay,so watch out!!!!!

I find it strange nobody mentioned the risk of overstaying, if you get stoped by police before you reach the airport, you may spend some time at IDC.

For 1 or 2 days?? I think they like the revenue better than the paper work.....

I think it was a short lived thing maybe 6/7/8 years ago, I saw it at the airport before security and then the next year I dint se it again and have not seen it since.....you know how they like to change their minds about things

I always get a sixty day visa and I always try to book my return on flights leaving in the early hours of the 61st day (flight at 02-30am being the latest I have tried this), I have regularly avoided an overstay by getting myself through the immigration process before midnight as once you have cleared the desk you are classified officially as having departed Thailand however always bear in mind that this works two ways, if you roll up to the immigration desk on arrival at a couple of minutes to midnight, you will lose a whole day because your passport is stamped for that date, so if your flight gets in between 23-00 and midnight I suggest taking the stroll to immigration a bit more leisurely and go through after midnight, it doesn't seem much but it can add up to two extra days that haven't been wasted

Same here - 16 hours over, pay 500 baht. That was about 7 years back.

There is no 'official' grace period - if there was then they just as well give you a 31 day visa stamp in the first place ;-)

Some people do say they have got away with less than 24 hours but they seem to be in the minority, so I guess it all depends on the mood of the Officer on duty. It doesnt seem to involve much paperwork and I was relieved of my 500 baht in much less time than it took me to earn it.

Make sure you have the cash (1,000) with you - pretty sure they can't take card payment and the last thing you want is to have trouble with your card in the airport ATM and be unable to pay....

Was fined bht500 for less than 24 hours overstay at BKK airport in November. At check-in the lady told me that it will be up to the immigration officer to impose the fine or not. No receipt received.

I would guess that those charged for a overstay of one day were not leaving from Suv (bkk). It is not hit or miss there for not paying the fine. Some also may not of noticed the I wrote it is only at some airports that you do not pay the fine. Border crossings do not have the same rule.
