BANGKOK, 19 December 2014 (NNT) – The Transport Ministry has plans to enhance the efficiency of airports nationwide in terms of service and safety standard in preparation for the arrival of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015, Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong, Transport Minister revealed.

The plan was contained in his speech to the opening ceremony of a seminar entitled “The Future of Airports as Economic Drive to AEC” which was organized by the Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT).

Air Chief Marshal Prajin said he had ordered all aviation units under the supervision of the ministry to escalate the standard of services and safety in order to ensure that all aviation operators and passengers would be served with best services.

The Department of Civil Aviation has been assigned to develop its twenty provincial airports, particularly the ones located near the special economic zones in Mukdahan in the Northeast, Mae Sot in the North, and Hat Yai and Krabi in the South. The improvement will help all airports handle an expected increase in the number of tourists after the official opening of the AEC.

He added that the ministry has also discussed with the Royal Thai Navy a possibility of putting parts of U-Tapao Naval Airport in Rayong for use in commercial purposes. Result of the negotiation is expected to be known by March 2015.

Yesterday i flew from KLIA Malaysia to Don Mueang. What a world of difference!!

In Malaysia there is nobody standing in the walkways, everybody can speak good english, shops have normal prices, loads of restaurants, no yelling taxidrivers, no groups of very annoying chinese tourists, very good pharmacy shops who really know about their products and speak fluent english.

The pilot in the plane could not speak any english though, which worried me because how can he comminicate with the air control towers??

The Thai immigration forgot to staple my departure card in my passport, when i asked them to that (so i won't loose it) they really had no idea what i was asking....learn english!!

When i flew from BKK to Malaysia i didn't have to take off my belt, from KL to BKK i sure had to do that and it had to be scanned.

Another flight to Hongkong the same, In BKK they let me carry a small pocketknife in the handluggage but at Hongkong the scanner found it and it got confisticated. (I didn't even know it was in my backpack).

In BKK they let me have my keys in my pocket while being scanned, In Hongkong i had to take them out.

From now on we will go to Malaysia every 2months for shopping and relaxing....Thailand still is a 3rd world country compared to them.

Everyone up front knows English , they wouldn't be in the air otherwise , sometimes they only talk their language when addressing the passengers ,they could have been busy, being a short sector and a heavy traffic.corridor

At the Thai airports almost nobody can speak english up front. Not at the security-check, not at the immigration, not at the security, not in the shops and also many pilots/ground personell can't speak english. I have no idea what they are trying to say. Myself i also studied 20 years to learn proper english and i don't even use it for my job.

Especially when a pilot is making an announcement i have to chuckle, if you can't speak proper english then keep your mouth shut. I have no idea if he was telling something important or just the temperature at the destination. Then i start worrying how he will conversate with the air-towers.

In Malaysia everybody on KLIA speaks good english, even the personell in the back of a shoeshop.

Thailand is still a 3rd world country, even english teachers here can't speak any english. I know several of them.
