Gen Prayut and Ms Yingluck voted most outstanding government administrators by Isan people

KHON KAEN: -- Northeastern people have voted Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha and former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra as the most outstanding male and female government leaders respectively, according to Isan Poll.

Driver in fatal crossing accident used 'yaba': police

BANGKOK: -- The driver of a small truck that hit and killed a woman in the heart of Bangkok on Thursday was found to have used methamphetamine ('yaba') before getting behind the wheel.

Police have charged Suriya Sukbua, 30, with drug abuse and reckless driving causing the death of another person.

The victim, Kanjapas Siriprathum, 29, was a creative worker for a TV programme. The truck hit her while she was crossing Asoke Road with a green light to walk right in front of her office.

The accident took place just 11 days after she wed Nattawat Pa-anekphankul.

Prayut urges Bangkokians to carry along winter clothes to poor people in North

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Bangkokians visiting northern provinces to enjoy freezing weather should bring along jackets and other winter clothing for the poor there.

In his pre-recorded speech for his weekly TV programme aired Friday night, Prayut said it was a contrast to see rich people in warm clothes taking photos in the North while local people were shivering in freezing weather.

NRC President assures Pakistan Ambassador Thais will go to poll in Feb 2016

BANGKOK, 18 December 2014 (NNT) - The President of the National Reform Council has assured the Pakistan Ambassador to Thailand that the next general election will take place at the beginning of 2016.

NRC President Tienchay Kirananda and his deputy, Tassana Boontong, on Thursday met with Dr. Sohail Khan, the Pakistan Ambassador to Thailand who made a visit to deliver his congratulatory message for their appointment to the reform council.

Then, they held a meeting, in which the missions and the roles of the NRC were brought up for discussion.

The Ambassador also inquired about the progress of the new charter drafting and Mr. Tienchay informed him that all NRC committees have already presented their suggestions to the Constitutional Drafting Committee, which will soon commence the drafting that is to be completed by April 2015.

Mr. Khan also asked the NRC President and his deputy when Thailand will hold the next election, and the answer is February 2016 if everything goes as planned.
