Jumping the shark: Mall-goers horrified as Spadenose leaps from tank

UBON RATCHATHHANI: -- A small Spadenose shark jumped out of its uncovered aquarium to the horror of a farang who thought it was going to eat his baby yesterday.

Despite the horrifying picture of the shark flopping around on the floor and a collapsed baby carriage, no injuries were reported in the incident at Central Ubon Ratchathani. Reports suggest the shark was eventually returned to the aquarium unharmed, after a number of people poked at it.

The mall’s public relations blamed the shark jump incident on a child who was seen tapping the aquarium with a toy, scaring the cute little shark.

Terrified that it was a scene out of Sharknado, a dad damaged his baby carriage as he desperately snatched his child to safety, just in case it was a very tiny shark attack. The baby wasn't struck by the shark whatsoever, according to the mall’s CCTV footage.

  • Yup, definitely the fault of those pesky children, they stopped just short of saying it was a foreign child, and for sure no issues with safety measures taken by the mall.

  • Well as it appears that the shark was endangered by a member of the public, albeit a very young member, perhaps it might be a wise move to remove this''attraction'' altogether and return its captive

  • Poor shark was probably trying to commit suicide, which is what I would do if someone locked me up in one room for the rest of my life.

The baby is fine, and the shark was served for lunch in the mall cafeteria shortly after.

Oh silly me , no profit motive in that ideas is there.

If the child hadn't been there, it wouldn't have happened.

I was looking at that aquarium a couple of days ago noticed that two or three smaller sharks that were in it last time I looked a few months back are no longer there

Perhaps they waited until all quiet, jumped out and made a successful getaway.

Or perhaps they just died of boredom or lack of correct water make up, temperature, etc., or wrong feeding.

Brings the question does anybody at this center have the appropriate knowledge? Silly question.

"...they stopped just short of saying it was a foreign child..."

Fortunately Thai Visa and you were able to emphasize this and project your thoughts onto the mall PR people. A child-like imagination is a marvelous thing at Christmas time and all year 'round for the dedicated Thai basher.

Wow big deal! That's the size of a shark you normally find as by catch in a mackerel can.

Did we reach the point already when it is "Thai bashing" if one disagrees with the local safety measures, not to mention the shameful farrang disagreement with any Thai opinion?

a horrified Caucasian? Any horrified other races?

Keeping racism alive and well.

Orientals that are American or from other western countries are not farang,

so don't go there.

a few months back,a child was sticking fingers in pool, yea you guest it lost a couple of fingers

they said that they were going to build the gage higher so kids couldn't stick fingers in pool

from the pictures, doesn't look like they did

there use't to be bigger sharks in the pool, guess they didn't last long after tasteing fingers biggrin.png

That pool did have a higher screen about a month ago but I saw it had disappeared last week when I visited the Mall.

Glad nuf fin happened!

Did they arrest that unruly child, and it's parents, for irritating

the shark ?

Must have been a Burmese shark, Thai sharks would never do that

Um, why the hell is a shark in a mall anyway?

Yeah.... there had to be a farang child and adult involved in this all to have happened and doing the tapping with a toy on the aquarium glass. No Thai child could ever have done such a thing......tongue.pngrolleyes.gifcheesy.gif
