Ubon Ratchathani: Farang horrified as shark leaps from tank

Possibly the shark was fed up just getting a free range chicken for food and decided to do a bit of natural hunting for itself at the Mall and about time these children were barred from the mall just a shower of hooligans being taught all these bad things like how to upset a shark in it natural environment from the nasty farangs , as we all know Thai children would never do such a thing.

Don't you get it? The story is metaphorical. It represents the average falang persons experience while in Thailand.

The mall is representative of Thailand where EVERYTHING/EVERYONE can be bought and is on sale for a certain price.

The tank is danger and contains forbidden fruit, the strange, the odd, the kinky that people love to ogle.

The small shark attack represents just what can happen at any moment while in this country and is the result of wanting to stand too close to the danger because it's exciting and exillerating.

The pram or baby stroller is a warning to always use protection or you will be strapped down with more responsibility than you ever wanted in the first place.

The obnoxious child pounding on the tank with a toy gun is symbolic of Thai immigration always banging on your door, breathing down your neck, constantly trying to get your attention with new crackdowns and higher hurdles.

Finally, the screaming falang is you who is at wits end and on nerves edge due to all the horrific foreign deaths in the last year amd all the corruption, graft and malfeasance that constantly swirls around your daily life as you attempt to cope just one more day in the land of smiles.

Merry Christmas all and have wonderful New Year in Thailand!

a horrified Caucasian? Any horrified other races?

Keeping racism alive and well.

Orientals that are American or from other western countries are not farang,

so don't go there.

The Thais weren't horrified, they were poking at it, probably checking the meat situation.

What a thoroughly un-noteworthy article even though it was written in painful jest. I would had no sympathy for the child nor its' parent had the shark landed on the push chair if it was true that the infant had been tapping on the tank.

Yup, definitely the fault of those pesky children, they stopped just short of saying it was a foreign child, and for sure no issues with safety measures taken by the mall.

"...they stopped just short of saying it was a foreign child..."

Fortunately Thai Visa and you were able to emphasize this and project your thoughts onto the mall PR people. A child-like imagination is a marvelous thing at Christmas time and all year 'round for the dedicated Thai basher.

And the worse "bashers" are those without a sense of humour...geez, you really must live a very sad life

im horrified at the ''heading of the article'',why the %^% say farang....try ''tourist ''...do we really need that word used in this forum....

It appears that my reading differs from yours..."The mall’s public relations blamed the shark jump incident on a child who was seen tapping the aquarium with a toy, scaring the cute little shark.

" it says "a" child NOT the child.

Well maybe the shark wanted to talk with someone with a brain it looks it like the keepers don't have one glad the child wasn't hurt. Been to the snake shows must have been out of my mind.

No doubt the shark is horrified at being in a tank in a shopping mall with a whole lot of gawky tourists, surely this is more news worthy...

I'm glad that the shark survived being poked by so many people.

The longer I live, the more enlightened I am by the behavior of others and my own insignificance in the world.

If the farang was horrified at this little shark...wait until he has to deal with a Thai loan shark...much more scary...

Sadly Asia is about 500 years behind the curve when it comes to eradicating animal cruelty !

It's sadly most western countries are nanny state, only about laws and rules and regulation, and ofcourse the tax 30%++ so we can keep immigrants in our country. Just another quality faring that love to bashing

Agreed. I reckon he closest the farang,.and most poster, s here have been to a shark is in a fish and chip shop.

Apart of course the famed ex Navy SEALs, SAS, SWAT and CIA types who abound on TV and who would, no doubt, have had the Mall surrounded immediately and sent in the Special Forces to deal with said shark with extreme prejudice.

Assuming of course they weren't polishing their Zimmer frames and checking the air pressure in the tyres of their wheelchairs.

Still it's the thought that counts.

Bit like Christmas.....hope you all had a great one!!!

Well as it appears that the shark was endangered by a member of the public, albeit a very young member, perhaps it might be a wise move to remove this''attraction'' altogether and return its captive creatures back into their own environment.

Oh silly me , no profit motive in that ideas is there.

Its a free exhibit actually, but yeah, set them free anyway.

Loads of kids (including mine) tap on the tank side. Simple solution would be to put up a barrier at least 1 metre from the tank wall so that rug rats can't reach.

Look at that poor shark flipped over on the ground, I would like to see some arrest warrants for those kids, and confiscate that baby trolley as evidence. Keep it next to the high so cars Customs has taken.

Off course no Thai would do such a terrible thing.... cheesy.gif

I was looking at that aquarium a couple of days ago noticed that two or three smaller sharks that were in it last time I looked a few months back are no longer there

Yes, sharks don't do well in aquariums. A world wide problem. You will notice a "turnover" of stock in most shark aquariums.
