Warning ! When filling up your car.

Local villagers returning from Bangkok to the village for the New Year report that some fiiling stations are working with police in yet another scam to make money.

Apparently while filling your car the attendant will attach a box of some sort containing Yaba capsules/tablets to your car, possibly under the wheel arch or under the back bumper.

You then leave the forecourt and soon afterwards the police will stop you and search the car. An on the spot fine of 30,000B fine is then asked for to prevent court action.

According to what they told my wife, the villagers say they have heard of 5 such incidents.

True or not? I really don't know it seems plausible but who carries 30,000B on them is my question so the 'fine' amount would i suggest be exagerated. TIT

So I would suggest you get out of the car and watch while your car is being filled up with gasoline.

I have asked my wife to go on facebook to warn her friends and in turn hope that they will pass it on in the same way I am doing so on this forum.

If it is true then when the filling stations attendants/owners and police are aware that this scam is common knowledge maybe it will stop.

This kind of story gets spread over social media from time to time, and people do get quite worked up. I don’t worry about it but it is second natured for me to be aware of my surroundings, especially if I am in unfamiliar surroundings. Just keep an eye on your mirrors and don’t get out of your car unless you see something suspicious and you should be okay.

Sounds like an urban myth.

Care to state what village or villagers. What petrol station? What police station?

This one resurfaces regularly around holidays.
