January 4, 201511 yr Hello everyone. Would anyone here recommend using an agency/solicitor etc in either UK or Thailand to aid with a UK family visit visa application? I'm British and living in UK. My wife lives in Thailand, she is Thai. Our daughter is Thai/English and already has both the Thai and UK passports. Had one refused nearly 2 years ago and having another go soon. The reasons for refusal were small points which I think we've got covered now. Thanks.
January 4, 201511 yr No need for an agent unless you are incompetent or, are happy to pay someone to undertake the task for you. The instructions are very simple on the website and there are some excellent threads on here about it - look especially for anything by The Old Git in the 'visas to other countries' forum. You want a General Visitor visa for your wife, Start here:- https://www.gov.uk/apply-uk-visa

January 4, 201511 yr Author Basically the the reasons for refusal were 1. I was overdrawn on one of the bank statements I provided, not by much or neither for long but I guess that does not look good. Going to leave myself out of the financial part this time and provide some better looking bank statements, not all farangs are rich. 2. Put down that my wife would stay with my parents but I think because they had just bought the house the deeds had not gone through. I lodge with friends and we can't stay there so hence my parents house. 3. My wife forgot to take her bank statements to show her own income. I haven't been able to live there full time so i'm always backwards and forwards at the moment. I did everything from here in UK, made appointment etc and gave her instructions to do the rest.
January 5, 201511 yr You want a General Visitor visa for your wife No; you want a family visit visa. Although as these no longer attract the right of appeal, there is no real difference between the two. BTW; being overdrawn at the bank is not a bar to financially supporting a visa applicant, provided you show that the overdraft is agreed and being serviced to your bank's satisfaction. You may find UK visit visa basics helpful. Whether to use an agent or not is your decision, but I suggest you read Visa Agents first. The only agents I know enough about to be confident in recommending are the forum sponsors; Thai Visa Express.
