PATTAYA: -- A Pakistan National who escaped from Prison in India where he was incarcerated in relation to a bombing which killed 18 people, including the Punjab Chief Minister, has been located and arrested at a house in East Pattaya.

The Indian authorities contacted Nongprue Police and advised them that intelligence they had received indicated Mr. Gurmeet Singh aged 37 was living somewhere in the East Pattaya area and was wanted on an International Arrest Warrant, after he is alleged to have escaped from Prison in India in 2000.

On 31st August 1995 the Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh and 17 others were assassinated by suicide bomber Dilawar Singh outside the Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat in India.

The suspect was eventually sentenced to Life imprisonment in absentia for his part in the bombing on October 12th 2010 after an investigation which lasted 15 years.

"Gurmeet" in1995, was 17 when the bombing occured by a suicide bomber. Gurmeet then escaped from prison in 2000, and was sentenced in absentia for his part in the suicide bombing in 2010!

Almost 20 years after the act, Gurmeet is tracked down to a house in East Pattaya! That is some true detective story!

Which is worse? Thai or Indian gaol?

Whichever I think they should send him back to Pakistan, they just removed the moratorium on the death penalty - thanks to terrorists.

i think credit is better deserved for the indian police for not giving up, how long would the thai police chase someone?

Don't send him to Pakistan, for Allah's sake! He'd be welcomed as a hero for killing the Punjab Chief Minister. Send him to India, they'll make sure he never escapes again!

First time Thai police has a valuable catch. Seems that if any terrorist or criminal escaped in any part of the world he will be in Pattaya. It is very difficult arrest these Sikh people, because they are supposed be with full beard and hair, they cannot be recognized if they shave them. Probably it could be accidental catch for not having passport, and arrested and found out that he is abscondia. Any how we can give 2 stars to Thai police for this. The most valuable people in any Police is the CSD, the chief is in jail for corruption. If they are corrupt, it is not possible to identify any crime or criminal, because they can bribe the police and on run all the time.

Makes you wonder how many more criminals are hiding in Thailand...

For everyone's information and specially the people who are reporting it. Mr.Gurmeet Singh (rightly said a scum) is an Indian national. He does not belong to Pakistan at all. Even Gurmeet kind of name does not exist in Pakistan. It's a shame that whatever bad happens anywhere Pakistan is supposed to be blamed. Also remember there are more than 180 million people living in that country who are losing their own children in this battle of big elephants. Not saying there are no terrorists but their total number is in hundreds and now they are being punished right away, if proved guilty.

He is certainly not a Pakistani and I can confirm that because I work for one of the biggest Media Groups in South Asia.

Gurmeet belongs to a separatist movemovent led by a "Sikh" school of thought and demand separate land or rights from India. Indian authorities smartly blame that they are backed by Pakistan like Pakistan says their terrorists are backed by India via Afghanistan and so on.

So he is 100% Indian despite of the fact who ever is backing him. Ask Pakistan and Indian embassies in BKK about his true ID and you will get the confirmation.

Thai Visa editors and admin please show some reresponsibility while spreading such important news.

Makes you wonder how many more criminals are hiding in Thailand...

Worse than that, how the heck did he get in? If they'd scrutinize him like the visa runners...

My guess would be hundreds.....this guys possibly been here for 14 years....it sounds as though Thailand the best place to come to, to avoid capture.....

The guy who was known as the Lizard (or something like that) was caught by the Thai police. He was also in the Pattaya area.

In this case though it is great to see the Thai police taking action when requested. This is the sort of action that gets other countries to help Thailand

I really don't care how long it takes to bring these evil people to justice, the fact is the Indian authorities have persevered with this manhunt. They have requested (and received) assistance from the relevant Thai Police and Army corps to detain this mass murderer.

Whether it is one year, ten years or twenty years who cares? The important point is this is a job very well done with a fantastic outcome, he is back behind bars where he belongs.

If all you are interested in is a daily dose of Thai bashing (in whatever form) then I am sure you will find something to whinge about, I for one think this is a great outcome which justify's full praise for both the Indian and Thai forces involved.

Even a terrorist needs a holiday and where in the world would one go to for a hassle free holiday but Pattaya, well done to the police another job that they can pat themselves on the back for a job well done now just to make sure he is delivered to his final destination and gets his just deserts

Just out of interest why did it need the police and the army to arrest this guy? Is there more to the story than has been published here?

When a guy has already been convicted for a bombing that killed 18 I don't think "quotes" are still needed around the word terrorist.
