My GF is half Thai/Malay and fluent in English and Mandarin. Do you want written translation or verbal? She can speak fluently, but cannot write in Mandarin.

There is a written Chinese that applies to almost all languages spoken in China.

Some languages have no written form - Chinese is not one of them.

To say there is no written form is a bit misleading but could be accurate

to say in some situations.

To clarify. What I meant was there are a number of different spoken dialects in China, Mandarin being just one. However there is only one written form and that encompasses all dialects. Strange as it sounds but seems to work !

of couse there is a writing systerm in chinese.

china's offcial language is mandarin chinese which is 1 of the 61 languages...

and there is over 40,000 chinese characters in this writing systerm, but in daily life if people knows around 2000 chinese characters,

will be able to read, write and speak like a chinese. this is what chinese writing look like.( it's not easy for foreigner to learn chinese,

and i find it's hard to teach.)
