They do have a lot of doctors and a lot of people seeing them. 'I'm helping a friend here They gave her meds, which sh took, and they helped quite a bit, but she didn't like the thought of taking them. I've been very supportive to her, letting her know it's never been her fault, that she inherited it from family. After she stopped, her issues came back. Anhedonia. She went to another doctor I found, who gave her Prozac again, which she took for awhile again, then stopped. I talked to him. He was pretty young, and it seemed he only knew the basics, as he asked her if she wanted to take the meds, which did help her, and she said no, so all he did was stop the session. No asking her how she's been doing, work, home, socially etc. He should have tried to continue the therapy, and tell her since things weren't improving, it might be the time to try something else. It's a conveyor belt approach, and it why so many here take their lives. Most won't try anything and succumb to the disease. Some take medicines, with no follow up, asking how they're doing. My friend has three friends who have the same thing, and two are taking meds. No idea how they're doing. Many have to try different meds to see which one gets results, as you're only helping the symptoms anyway. At least for now, until someone finds something that works for the majority who have clinical. -

With respect, saying that this isn’t relevant to me is actually part of the paradox. The original post wasn’t claiming every expat fits the stereotype — it was highlighting a pattern that exists within the larger population. And ironically, one of the key behaviours it describes is this exact reaction: distancing oneself from criticism while insisting the issue doesn’t apply — even as it unfolds in real time. There are tens of thousands of expats in Thailand, yes. But pretending that hypocrisy, entitlement, or superiority complexes don’t exist just because you personally don’t see yourself that way… is exactly why the term paradox fits so well.- 1
