Hi

I have a tourist multi entry visa ( 3 entries ) which i applied for in the UK at the Thai embassy which allows me to stay in Thailand for 60 days on each entry before having to leave Thailand and re-enter for the next 60 days giving me a total of a 6 month stay my question is im looking at doing a border run to Ranong then crossing over to Burma ( Myanmar ) and back again so that my second 60 days can start, but as this is my first time im unsure if at this border crossing i can get a 60 day entry stamp and what the cost are from looking on the net it seem that the rules about visa are constantly changing and ive been trying to find a recent post on this crossing as this is the nearest to me from Phuket i know there are other crossing "Malaysia" etc but im trying to keep cost down after a expensive xmas and from what ive read on the net crossing over in to Burma pay a $10 fee plus the longtail boat across the river maybe the cheapest for me can any tell me if this crossing i can re-new for a 60 day entry and what the cost is both re-entering thailand and if its still $10 fee in Myanmar ?

Many thanks for any help

Good question hatmanka, I'm in exactly the same situation except I will be in Bangkok. I have two additional questions, one is, are there groups of people who go together on the visa run, thus sharing expenses and expertise, secondly (off topic) how much is a fair wage for a two or three day a week maid?

You can get a 30 day extension of your 60 day entries at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

Recent reports indicate that you can leave and re-enter the country ay Ranong to use another entry of your visa.

So what your saying is i have two choices,

1) i can extended the first part of my multi entry visa by 30 days by going to the immigration office in Phuket and paying a fee of 1900 bht and after the 30 days leave the country and re-enter again on the second entry part of my multi entry visa giving me another 60 days is that correct ?

2) i can re-new my visa at Ranong using the second entry and getting a 60 day stamp ?

Do any Members happen to know what fee's are involved at renewing my visa for 60 days at Ranong ?

Hi ubonjoe, does this mean that I can get a 30 day extension for each part of my 3 entry 6 month visa, thus giving me a total of nine month stay?

Thanks

Yes, it means that. But keep in mind the expiry date of your visa itself. All entries must be made before the visa itself expires.

Ok, thanks for your reply Mario. Can a 30 day extension be obtained at the 6 month expiry date, or am I able to get another six month visa? Or is it, none of the above?

I have now been told by a friend of my girlfriend who's says that you can no longer use Ranong for tourist visa re-newly according to her she is saying that the government no longer accepts the type of visa i have at Ranong and will not give me the 60 day stamp if i leave and re-enter there she is saying i need to go to satun to renew my visa to be honest this is turning in to a nightmare i understand that the thai government can change the laws on visa's at anytime but surely someone knows if this is the case in Ranong 100% as i dont want to go to satun if i can actually use Ranong and vice vera i dont want to go to Ranong and then find out i can't re-new there and i have to re-new by new week so any help from someone who knows exactly what they are talking about would be helpful here

Many thanks

PS. The thai embassy told me that if i wished to extend my visa pass the 6 months i could extend it for a further 30 days by paying 1900bht to the immigration office in bkk they never say if i could do it in phuket and they never said that i could extend it after each 60 day period but i have seen on my visa that there is a date for which you must use your last entry by so by extending it 30 days everytime would push u passed the date for the last entry

get a 30 day on each 60 day entry, but do the last of your 3 entries before the use by date/enter before date of the actual visa, even in it means leaving the country a few days before you 2nd 30 day extension is up. the 3rd entry can also be extended even though the visa has run out, but the border crossing must be done before visa expiry, sorry to repeat but it is important. tourist visa's can be extended at any local immigration office. go by ubonjoe advice in post no3. he is the top man for visa advice on here. In the future get the visa as close to departure from the UK

Where are you staying there is another burma crossing near to the river Kwai, there are visa run services going from Hua hin.

Only the entry matters, once the visa is expired you can still get the extension.

If timed properly, you can get 60+30+60+30+60+30 days. 60 days permission to stay for each entry and 30 days for each extension at immigrations.

Each of the three airport or border entries must be done before the expiry or "use by" date printed on the visa sticker you got in UK. You can make the last 30 day extension of stay in Thailand at immigrations even after the visa has expired.

The "extensions" extend your permission to stay IN Thailand. You are not extending or renewing the visa. So you need to keep an eye on the visa expiry to make sure you do your final border crossing before it expires. AND you need to watch the latest permission to stay hand stamp that you got at a border or at immigrations office.

And you can do your 30 day extensions at immigrations a week or two before your 60 day permission ends. They add the 30 days onto your 60, so you do not lose and days. Better to go in a bit early than to leave it until the last minute to be safe.

Haven't completely worked it out timing wise but for a UK resident there is a 90 day Cambodian Visa available for about 24 GBP, but the Cambodian Embassy say the only entry points are:

  • Phnom Penh International Airport
  • Siem Reap International Airport
  • Cham Yeam (Koh Kong)
  • Poi Pet (Banteay Meanchey)
  • Bavet (Svay Rieng
  • The presence of this visa could lessen any hassles at the border, for me anyways. Am I right?

Not sure what the relevance of this is to the original post. If you are asking about visas and travel to Cambodia, better to post it in the Cambodia forum or the forum for visas to "other countries."

Do a forum search for "visa runs," for companies that offer the service for groups of people who need to do a border crossing or to get a new visa.

I was looking for the easiest way for me to obtain Thai Visa extensions to my 6 month Visa, which in my case would be to travel into Cambodia and back. I think (for me anyway) the questions have been answered, and I much appreciate the help from all involved. At some point I would like to come back with realtime dates just to check I'm not going off the rails, (I'm painting a door at the moment, and the paint can is calling, yeah you needed to know that!)

Info you got from the friend of a friend is wrong or confused. I suspect they are talking about a visa exempt entry not a tourist visa.

There have been recent reports that you can do the crossing at Ranong if you have a valid visa.

Embassies are often not the best source of info on the use of visas or getting extensions of the entries they allow.

The enter before date on your visa is just the date you must use the last entry of your visa by. It it does not limit the amount of time you can be in the country.

You get a 30 day extension of each 60 day entry. You just have to be sure you do the 3rd entry before the enter before date on your visa.

Thank you ubonjoe thats all i needed to know, and yes your more then likely right about the friend this is the big problem here too many people think they know what they are talking about because they have heard it off somebody who's heard it off somebody but because there's so much confused over which visa where people offen get information mixed up or in correct that is why i posted on this site to speak to somebody who actually does know

So once again thank you ubonjoe

The reason why im not bothered about the 30day extensions is i dont need them as my tourist visa already gives me more then enough time here

Hi,

Is it possible to renew my (before the 60 days expires) 6 months Thai multiple entry visa, doing a crossing on Cham Yeam border, getting the stamp out of Thailand, stay in the no man land area then re-enter Thailand without crossing the Cambodian border? and without have to pay a 30$ Cambodian Visa?

You have to enter Cambodia by getting a visa on arrival. Immigration checks for the Cambodia entry/departure stamps.

You can use a Cambodia e-visa at the Hat Lek/ Cham Yeam crossing. No one page visa sticker that way. See: https://www.evisa.gov.kh/
