I went to Nakhon Sawan immigration Office today. I wanted the 60 day extension for my visa based on marriage to a Thai citizen. Everything OK BUT:

The Dutch proof of marriage was not accepted. They gave me the visa based on the same paper in Amsterdam (Consulate Thailand). I got the paper at the "gemeentehuis", in Thai would be Baan Amphur, in English municipality. It has all the info in 10 languages including English. There is a stamp on it from the "gemeente". But somehow they needed a paper only in English with official Dutch and Thai stamps on it. They showed me some examples from applications from other people. I don't know where I can get such a paper, I am in Thailand now, can not go to the "gemeentehuis". Dutch embassy? Official translation?

Strange thing is they gave me the one year multiple entry Non-Imm-O based on the Dutch "Extract from marriage registration" ! But now in Thailand they need something else? I think the stamp on the paper is not impressive enough (my municipality has a very simple logo, no lions, dragons and stuff) or something. I have until 23 january to solve it or I will have to leave the country and re-enter. I would really like to have the extension (for B 1950) because it saves me a lot of time and money (round trip to f.i. Laos at least 2 days hotel, fuel, food etc.).

Anyone has some advice on this please?

They want a translation to Thai that has been certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

You also need to have the original certified by Dutch embassy or you might have do a self certification of it by doing a statement that is valid at embassy and have it translated and certified by the MFA.

You could also register your marriage here at an Amphoe and get Kor Ror 22 marriage registry. You would need the certified translations I mentioned before to do it.

Aha! So I would have to go to the Dutch embassy in Bangkok and then to a translation service to get the paper translated and certified by MFA.

What is the advantage of Kor Ror 22? And how much is it?

Thanks a lot Ubonjoe

The Dutch embassy charges something like 1500 baht, the translation agency between 300 and 400 baht and the legalization will cost 400 baht plus an additional 65 baht to have it send to your home within a week. (You could try express service for 800 baht, but would have to wait a few hours)

The translation agency can also take care of the legalization at the MFA for you, for a price of course.

The process at the amphur is free and the form stamped will cost 20 baht.

advantage is that you know have a record of your marriage in Thailand as well and can get if from any Thai amphur. But you will need the khor rhor 22 form to get extnesions of stay from immigration based on your marriage. They will not do them without it.

best is to scan all the forms before going to the amphur. Immigration can ask to see a copy of the legalized documents, which you will turn in at the amphur.

So all in somewhere around 2400 baht. And then the 1950 baht for the visa extension. Saves me 2 trips to a neighbouring country so that's fine.

When my visa expires in october what are the options? I am 42 years old, can not show the 400.000 baht in Thai bank / monthly income. Get a new visa in the Netherlands or any other options?

I would really like to have the extension (for B 1950) because it saves me a lot of time and money (round trip to f.i. Laos at least 2 days hotel, fuel, food etc.).

Why need to go Laos? Where You are now? From Nakhon Sawan it's 1 day trip to Myanmar border, Mae Sot / Myawaddy.

He needs a new visa, not to make a border run.

Exactly where in Myanmar are they issuing multiple entry visas?

He wrote visa expires october? Then he maybe go to Savannakhet to get new one. Now he wants 60 extension and if can not get "I will have to leave the country and re-enter."

Contacted the dutch embassy, a legalised marriage certificate is 1210 baht, can wait for it.

Anyone knows a good translation service, preferably close to the dutch embassy (soi tonson, ploenchit)?

And can they also do mfa legalisation?

There is one near the embassy, otherside of the road about a hundred meters before the embassy coming from the BTS. The embassy can direct you.

Be sure to check their price:

- translation should not be more than 400 baht, the certification by the embassy 400 baht for regular service and 800 for express service. The rest is the fee for the agency.

Actually I WILL make a border run because my original marriage certificate was not accepted at the Dutch Embassy, more than 6 months old... Yes I know it's on the website, I checked after I went to the embassy :( They did not tell me this on the phone when I called them, next time I'll make sure I check everything MYSELF on the internet, 2 days in F##king Bangkok, Sukhumvit, what a dump! Grrrr!

Anyway, I want to drive to Mae Sot, what's the procedure over there? Just enter Myanmar and return to Thailand after 5 minutes?

I assume that you will be coming over the mountain from Tak. When you get to the first roundabout, go 3/4 the way aroundand exit. That road will take you to the bridge, about 4 kilometers. Park on the side of the road or under the bridge. Checkout of Thailand and either walk across the bridge, not far, or take the songtaeu for ?baht. I was always asked to go isiude of the office om the myanmar side - years ago. You pay them either 500 baht or #10, they ask you if you are going into Myawaddy or not. If not you just wait until they processs your paperwork, in and out and go back across the bridge and through Thai Immigration.

TRhere's a large walking market along the river on the right side of the bridge and a good restaurant, Thai, on the right side next to the bridge. There's also a maket at the top of the mountain and if it was rainy season you could stop and buy mushroooms on the way down. Have fun!

With all that said my last border run was on 17 May 2004 so It might all be different other than the directions.

I was there a week ago, same same. It takes only 1 minute inside Myanmar immigration. They just copy passport, do stamps and collect 500b

Did a one day round trip from nakhon sawan yesterday. The drive was a lot longer than I expected. Took me about 11 hours.

Visa was very easy:

leave Thailand (stamp 1)

Walk over the bridge to Myanmar

Pay 500 baht

Enter Myanmar (stamp 2)

Leave Myanmar (stamp 3)

Walk over the bridge to Thailand

Enter Thailand (stamp 4)
