I've booked Banthai in Patong for husband, myself and teenage daughter and son for Christmas and New Year, but last night read some recent reviews that said they have live music till 2 am, and there are lots of busy bars and nightlife all around.

My husband really needs a rest, and we don't want somewhere overly lively or to be in a noisy area - obviously everywhere is going to be busy at that time of year, but we don't want to be in the thick of things. We just really want to be able to chill out, explore a little, go to nice restaurants at night and probably have quite a few early nights.

I'm beginning to think that Banthai is a big mistake, and that we shouldn't even stay in Patong but maybe in Kata.

We love the idea of a hotel with a swim up bar, pool access rooms would be fantastic, and so long as it's not too long a walk to the beach - 10 mins or so would be ok. Any advice please?

Hi Treetiger,

I have never stayed in Patong, but it is a very lively place, I am also not sure if there is an area to chill out, only went there for a walk round once.

I have stayed at Kata and this is a very quiet place with good hotels and a great place if you are looking to chill.

Plenty of scope for trips out or staying on the beach, this would be a good choice if your choice is to chill, in my opinion, however you may get a little bored if you stay for a long time, but that maybe what you are looking for, not being bored of course.

Good Luck

I kinda agree ...... Patong is great for a night out ... but Kata/Karon is far quieter and still interesting!

Kamala, where I live, is extremely quiet right now ... has a few great resorts close to the beach ... not sure wat it is like around X-mas!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I've stayed at the Baan Thai before. If you are looking for a quiet hotel this is not really the place. The room i had was quite a bit back into the gardens but the noise from Bangla Road was still pretty loud. Didn't actually bother me much as i was usually out late anyway but not the hotel you'll want to be at if you like early nights

Did you really hear Bangla Rd from Baanthai Beach resort? Thats amazing considering live entertainment until late night/early morning. I believe that the standard filipinoband coverband are still on every night right?

Wow, thanks for your thoughts. I better hunt down some alternatives real quickly then!

I think I might post a new thread about hotels in Kata and hopefully get some ideas. Banthai will be wanting some money soon, so I need to find an alternative quickly. My travel agent is going to kill me - he was emailing to and from Banthai for ages to get us organised! When we discussed Banthai a few weeks ago all the reviews seemed to be great, the tide turned very quickly :o

I stayed at patong last winter.

Went to the Neptune and asked for a real quiet room.

They forgot to tell me a new Disco/Bar scene opened next door.

The music started at 10Pm and went till 5AM.

So loud my room was vibrating! NO WAY TO SLEEP! Forget it!

Next day I went up the street to Popa Palace, nice new place, asked for a quiet room. The all nite Karaoke Entertainment next door statrted at 10PM and went till 7AM.

I mean, this is a brand new hotel, millions invested and the room are uninhabitable , except for the sleepy, one nite guests that leave every morning.

<deleted>?

Stay away from Patong. It really has turned into another crass, polluted, Thai Beach/Whore House area. Almost as bad as pattaya now.

Try the Marina Cottages at the end of Karon Beach. Nice.

Ummm... you may have a point there. The old grey cells are disappearing rapidly, probably due to too much alcohol. I was getting Banthai confused with Baan Sukothai. So anyway, another round?

I stayed in Kata last year, nice and quiet..

My parents stayed at the Kata Beach Resort which was a very nice and relaxing hotel right on the beach.

totster :o

I'd agree with Totster, book a hotel in Kata or Karon for a quieter holiday. Patong's Bangla Rd area where the Bann Thai hotel is, is not a very suitable place for a family wanting a peaceful holiday. Nai Harn also has a great beach and some excelent hotels, Check that out.

Hope you enjoy your holiday on our wonderful island

Ban Thai is a nice hotel. It is not located at Bangla or direct area, do not understand the comments above from others that noise from Bangla will disturb you at the Ban Thai Resort.

It is far enough away from night life to not be disturbed. It is also located off the beach road and in a fairly quiet area/soi. In my opinion it is one of the few hotels in Patong which offer a resort environment. i would have no problem recommending the hotel at all...

Will pass by tonite and have another listerning to the noise....

In front of the hotel, Port and Starboard, there is a livre band playing. This is located a 100 meter in front of the hotel lobby with in between a block of shops, restaurants and small businesses.

Also great restaurant just outside the Ban Thai; Flavours!
