This has been going on for many years, why am I thinking they aren't looking too hard for the trafficking ring leaders?

On a wider note, IMHO this is one of the monumental and disgraceful failures of the UN in terms of pushing the world towards being civil and gaining equality for all people at least on basic level where every person on this earth is recognized as a citizen of earth with recognized papers.

Even a situation whereby stateless people had a special UN passport or something similar would be better than what exists now. But the UN have made no progress on this at all, what a disgrace.

Human traffickers change route to smuggle Rohingha migrants to Malaysia

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: -- Human trafficking rings have changed their routes from Andaman coastal provinces to provinces along the west coast to smuggle Rohingya migrants to Thailand to avoid strict suppression there, according to Nakhon Si Thammarat provincial police.

The disclosure of the southern police came after Hua Sai district police arrested 98 Rohinya migrants in five pickup trucks on the road from Phang Nga to Songkhla on Sunday.

One woman died after being crushed to death while being transported in one if the five crammed pickup trucks.

The 98 Rohingya migrants were believed to have been smuggled into the country by a human-trafficking ring.

Hua Sai police station officer Capt Somporn Thongcheen said the woman most likely suffocated and the others appeared exhausted.

Hua Sai police set up the checkpoint on the Nakhon Si Thammarat- Songkhla r road after obtaining information that a number of illegal migrants would pass through the district on their way to Songkhla.

About 4am Sunday, a convoy of vehicles was spotted heading towards the checkpoint.

Officers were able to stop five of the vehicles, but the rest escaped.

The drivers of three vehicles fled the scene and the other two were arrested.

The migrants found in the five vehicles were later taken to Hua Sai police station.

They were then taken in small groups to Hua Sai Hospital for treatment. All had been travelling without food for two days, police said.

The two drivers said they had picked the Rohingya up from a coastal area of Phangnga and were taking them to Songkhla.

Human trafficking rings have changed their routes from Andaman coastal provinces to provinces along the Gulf of Thailand to avoid strict suppression there, he said.

Meanwhile an official of the Social Development and Human Security Office of Nakhon Si Thammarat said officials were sent to interview each migrant through interpreters to find out if they had been victims of a human-trafficking movement.

If they were victims of human trafficking rings, they will be deported.

Officials said Rohingya have fled their homes in Rakhine state in Burma via Thailand to Malaysia in increasing numbers recently.

The UN or UNHCR is busy with seminars and cocktail parties and with posh offices in the most expensive zone and has any one really noticed how these UN people are over paid and how much money is spent on their establishments and for their luxurious life style? It's all aid money mostly.

A recent report stated that the Rohingya are trying to get to Malaysia. If that is so, then I doubt very much that they would sail right around the Malay peninsular to get to east coast Thailand.
