Popular Post Seekingasylum
Making enemies was inevitable in his line of work, exposing farang criminals, particularly in Pattaya, and the Thai police who variously share in their thefts and who also exploit and abuse farang, but the truth of the matter is that the boiler room shysters and their Thai protectors threatened him and his family again. That the Thai dysfunctional judicial system favours these people and have ruled against him in another case concerning the McMafia creeps in Pattaya hasn't helped either. Sad day. One of the good guys and a great man to have on your side when in trouble with the bent Thai police etc.

Popular Post WitawatWatawit
He is working on an expose that would be impossible for him to do here. Plus he's not young any more and the pressure he has been under is immense. Plus he wants a good education for his kids, which he can't afford here. Be interesting to see what happens with a lot of the issues he's been following - will someone else pick up the cudgel?

Which does of course beg the question, what exactlt has got that much better in Thailand in the last 15 years. The place got richer into the hands of few, and everyone went on a building sprees turning mist parts of most towns into building sites and traffic jams. It is a relevant question what did get better. This guy uncovered more dodgy dealings than any other and he uncovered quite q few very dodgy farangs doing some pretty horrendous stuff. He will be missed at least by people who are honest.
Popular Post redandyellow
The world is a much better place with the likes of Andrew Drummond, who is as brave as any soldier. He knows the best (his Thai wife and kids, the food, most of the people, etc..) and the worst of Thailand, an utter dichotomy that would be beyond comprehension for many, but for journalists like Andrew, and Phuketwan Editor Alan Morison, who also fits the category of brave warrior, although these folks would deny it, such is their modest mentality.. But when the lowest common denominator of foreign scum pays off corrupt Thai police, and other assorted thugs, for any number of nefarious activities, where morals and ethics are found at the end of a gun barrel, or at the tip of a machete...whether we are reading about no good Goudie on Andrew Drummond.com, or the marginalized Rohingya on Phuketwan.com. According to the thugs, Mr. Drummond's best-buy date was up years ago, yet he remains relatively fresh, quite undaunted, however cognizant that he has a family that has to come first. He's smart enough to know that he'd be little use to his cherished family, if the thugs (farang and Thai) got their way. Whether Islam extremists, corrupt Thai police, or expat criminals languishing in Pattaya, all those with the conscience of a plastic flower, with the morals and ethics of a cornered rat, need to be put under the spotlight, or else the rats will continue their depravities, their scams, their murders unabated...in murky shadows, where they prefer to be of course. Virtually every one of them are cowards, when isolated. Consequently, folks of this ilk stick together, like sh-- on a blanket. Journalists like Andrew and Alan are in the same category as Charlie Hebdo, they are modest, albeit imperfect people, light years ahead of their adversaries, in terms of a moral compass. Now it's up to readers of conscience, to help them, to emulate them in some small way, like sharing information that could save lives. After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Popular Post faxx
Yes, he was a brave soldier and I am sad to see him leave. But he was just a blogger and not an investigative journalist. He got many facts wrong for most of the articles that I was interested in reading. That lost him a lot of credibility - it's a pity he did not posses professional skills. I do believe he stepped on some toes and that's good he did. Hope his work and risk taking will benefit in some way. Edited January 17, 2015 by faxx

I don't know where you get your spurious 'info' from but he was a frequently published Journalist in the UK dailies (more often his stories on the more nefarious side of life here would appear in the Mail, Mirror etc). Far more than a 'just a blogger' I'd say. (I think he may even have been Thailand correspondent for The (London) Times for a while. Shame the thugs protecting the scum he exposed got to him really. He was very good at exposing the faux 'rotarian' types as out and out liars, cheats. scammers, sexual deviants and villains, trying to pass themselves off as pillars of the community in Thailand. I bet a few of those iffy expats are breathing a little easier at this news now...Thailand will be a worse place for his absence.

Let's put it this way .... some of those guys he attacked are pretty well known .... and they deserved to be exposed. He scratched the surface, yes. But in detail he was lacking hard evidence (in the cases that I followed). He could have been much more careful. He acted emotionally .... he got names and facts wrong because he got carried away .... and he never corected them - not even on his blog. Still, he was a good guy ... just not that good of a journalist. Just my 2 Cents. Edited January 17, 2015 by faxx
