At some embasies and consulets when getting a double or triple entry tourist visa, they want to see "confirmed plane ticket" out of Thailand for each entry you request. So for example, on a triple entry visa from bali you would have to show three plane tickets each with flights leaving thailand for the date which your current entry expires ( usually 90 days for most people on this forum ).

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with what sort of documents they accept for this? Do you have to go to the airport and collect an official ticket which you use to board the plane? Does a print out of the reciept from the travel website you purchased the ticket from count?

What about an "itenerary" since some places use that wording? Is that just a computer print out from the travel website showing information about a flight with no airline ticket codes or dollar value??

I've attached an example of an itenerary. Would they accept something like this? If not what is considered a "ticket' at the embasy? I ask because there are lots of different types of airline reciepts and documents you can print from online up to and including the actualy ticket itself.

Why do they even ask for this stuff when somebody can order tickets, get a reciept, print it and then cancel the ticket or block the transaction on their credit card???? Seems stupid to me.

Embassies and consulates will accept a e-ticket (print out of email you get). You can use cheap one way tickets to a nearby country on a low cost carrier.

An itinerary would show all flights, hotel reservations and etc from a travel agency.

what you posted was not a ticket, and depending on the embassy you go to will not be accepted. If they ask for a ticket then that is what they want. Almost all tickets contain a 6 letter and number reference like this "XJC6TZ" (disclaimer if this belongs to someone it is an accident as I just made it up) that reference with a family name will be able to be confirmed by anyone.
This requirement depends on the embassy you go to and the visa you want. Each embassy is able to set its own rules.

A print of the e-ticket is enough, though it must contain the following (all of these are missing from the picture):

- Passenger's name

- Booking reference

- Ticket number

- Receipt of payment, which shows amounts of the ticket + taxes + extras and the total amount PAID.

Am I wrong in the assumption that most airline tickets are none returnable and therefore who would book an expensive airline ticket and then hope they can get a visa?

Lucky that the London embassy did not ask for any confirmed airline tickets when we applied for single entry tourist visa.

My experience so far (40+ years and over 100 trips) is that with every country that has asked for a ticket has given the requested visa. So I would say that it is the expectation that the visa will be given not hope.

If I think that the visa could be refused then I would buy a full price first class ticket (not that I would ever use it) as they are fully refundable

The Thai consulate in LA did not either. Actually they told me that for a Tourist Visa none was required at all for US Passport holders. I even check this rule out with the Thai Embassy in DC ... just to make sure as we are talking about Thailand here and we all know that one place will tell you one thing and another will tell you something different. But nope... no outbound/onward ticket was required.
