Commerce Ministry’s Inspector General visits Damrongtham Center in Surin

SURIN, 19 Jan 2015 (NNT) – A Commerce Ministry Inspector General, Miss Nopporn Linthong, yesterday visited Damrongtham Center in Surin Province to listen to its problems and obstacles in handling complaints from public members.

The Damrongtham Center has been established since July 2014 in line with the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO)’s policy to take public complaints in all matters and present them to officials concerned so that they will be addressed in due course.

Miss Nopporn stated that the Surin Damrongtham Center had performed well. It has been operating around the clock, taking complaints and providing various services to the locals. It also serves as an agency collecting suggestions on the 11 aspects of the national reform, thus providing an alternative channel to the public apart from the 1667 hotline.

Miss Nopporn said after the inspection visit that the center had solved more than 1,000 issues ranging from land ownership, to complaints against government officials.

Colder weather forecast in upper Thailand

BANGKOK, 19 January 2015 (NNT)-The Meteorological Department has said the temperature will drop 1-2 degree Celsius further in upper Thailand as the high pressure system from China is spreading across the region.

People in the North and North East are told to brace for strong winds during this time. The temperature could plunge to 5-7 degree Celsius on the mountain tops in these regions.

It will remain cold in the Central Plain and the East tomorrow as the temperature has been forecast to drop to as low as 15 degree Celsius in the morning. In Bangkok, the morning temperature range will be 18-21 degree Celsius.

The monsoon remains strong in the Gulf of Thailand and sea conditions are not ideal for fishing. Scattered showers are expected in Nakhon Sri Thammarat and provinces below.

The tropical storm Mekhala, which has already weakened into a tropical depression, is posing no threat to Thailand. Those traveling to the Philippines are advised to consult the weather forecast first.

Bangkok Express Service open for busy people in need of civil registration

BANGKOK, 19 January 2015 (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has opened a Bangkok Express Service office as an alternative for busy people who need civil registration service.

According to the BMA, the new service has recently been opened at Seacon Bang Khae in an effort to provide easier access to various registration services.

The BMA also plans to open 5 more places to cater to the city lifestyles. Many Bangkok residents are either often caught up at work or live too far from the district office to bother.

Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumband Paribatra said the service expansion is among many goals that the BMA wants to achieve for Bangkok residents.

Five other places will be located at Fashion Island, Tang Hua Seng department store, The Mall Bangkhae and Udonsuk BTS station. The Bangkok Express Service offices are open every day from 10.00 hrs – 19.00 hrs.

Farmers growing rice against advice could be in trouble

PHITSANULOK, 19 January 2015 (NNT) - The Royal Irrigation Department (RID) says it will not supply water to rice fields despite calls from farmers for fear of water shortages in summer.

According to the news, there are more than 33 million rai of rice fields in 22 provinces that are located in the low-lying Chao Phraya basin.

In Phitsanulok, residents, including farmers who have grown rice against the RID’s advice, have experienced a water shortage as there is less water supply from major dams.

The RID is trying to maintain the water levels across the country, hoping the dry season won’t be as bad. Despite calls from farmers for water, the RID will not release more water for irrigation to rice fields.

This is due to the fact that the water levels in Sirikit and Khwae Noi Bamrungdan Dams are quite low. The RID is now trying to preserve what is left for the coming growing season.

Rice farmers are normally able to take advantage of the rainy season once a year to grow their crops. There must be sufficient amount of water to sustain the ecosystem and crops should the rains arrive later than expected.

The RID adds that rice plantations covering about 190,000 rai of land in Phitsanulok could be threatened by drought in the next 4 months.
