Fun Things To Do In Chiangrai!

Featured Replies

We have alot of members that have been in CR for a very long time.

I am just wanting to know some of the fun or interesting things that some of us do in our spare time.

I am aware of kayaking etc but are there other things such as..

Tennis groups

A place where you have been hiking or treking.

A football team for local farangs etc

Anything fun that you would recommend.

ITR, there is a hash going on tomorrow (Aug-19) at 4:00. Please see the "Hash House Harriers" thread for more info. Hope to see you there.

Jpop,

forgive my ignorance but what exactly is a Hash run? I have never done one before but I have heard that they are quite fun.

Is it a run or a walk or cycle?

yess Tennis group is interesting... i play it but nobody from this forum play with me...so i play with teachers here at MFLU.

Yesterday I trekked to the back of the rice fields and pulled some weeds, killed some snails, and checked on the progress being made by a new planting of a forage crop........and no, I have no openings.....the next possible reservation you could make would be many many years away and I can honestly say that I've never had a reservation canceled....sorry.

Unknown user,

I love a game of tennis so maybe we could organise a game! I know That ERG is always up for a game aswell so maybe we could get 1 more and call it doubles if you are interested?

Hi In The Rai,

Erg and I almost played tennis this morning. We thought it would be good to have some secret training before we would invite you.

Yesterday we played one hour badminton on the excellent badminton courts in the middle of town (free) and went to the Sportsclub to swim for one hour (30 Baht).

As our knees were heavily protesting against our plan to play tennis, we went for an hour swimming today.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is a Hash House Harriers run and Sunday is bicycle day again.

Do we have a hidden agenda behind all this?

Yes, you bet we have!

Maybe it would be a good idea to have one or two fixed tennis days a week, one or two bicycle days, one or two swimming days and lard the whole project with some bowling and kayaking.

And after a while we all would look like the Young Greek Gods!

For more information about real sports: The local 'Cafe des Sports', a subdivision of Bo's Place.

For more information about golf, HHH runs and similar divertisments: Svenivan!

PS: The new gigantic magnificent and superb badmintonhall in Ban Pa Ngiew is almost ready.

Yes, hashing is a lot of fun. For a general idea check out this link for more info...

Some hashers walk, others run, the rest do a combination of both.

hey thats great! set up the time... and i can teach u Limbo . i taught many students here.

Swimming is nice too but not good for me to hang around with a group of old farangs. (little girl here).

tell me where and when you want to play (hope not at CR stadium, i hate adults' bahavior at the court that they use with younger like me) and i dont want to take my motorbike to town so if i really have to i will take bus. :o ; Mae fah luang University also have tennis court.

Hurry up i only got about a month to stay here before i move to BKK.

Unknown User.

So Limbo hurry up and make an appointment with unknown user.

And in the Rai, you are welcome to join us in our double.

Ps can i play against unknown user, so i am not blinded by the reflection of mr. Limbo,s "hair".

Don't forget to bring your cap. I might want to borrow it :D

And don't try to manipulate the outcome of the game before we even started!

erg.. great im happy to play against you hehehe. must be fun!

A fun thing to do in Chiangrai is to teach all the neighborhood kids how to draw using the computer. Microsoft "Paint" which comes with most all computers keeps them interested and you can buy some educational software for a couple of hundred baht that has other fun drawing stuff on it. For the more advanced students you can get a learn to type program that works in Thai and English for next to nothing...then you can teach them how to type without looking at the keyboard.....hey, YOU might learn to be able to type without looking at the keyboard.

For fun, nothing beats melting a tub of butter in a microwave oven, and seeing if you can tweeze your eyebrows before the body of butter completely melts. Also fun is measuring elastic bands and recording thier data on an traditional index cards.

Measuring elastic bands sounds exciting but I'm baffled by the butter and eyebrow tweezing.

Can anyone reccomend a nice place to stay for a weekend. I was thinking of a nice little place with good food on a river where you can take kayaks out. Not in Chiangrai, I was thinking Mai Hongsong or some where similar.

Any ideas?

Could anyone recommend a good physciatrist in Chiang Rai?..................quickly.

Thanks for turning the topic on-topic again Tayto.

The activity described by Nigel is indeed not limited to Chiang Rai. You could do it everywhere in the world if you felt inclined to it.

My personal opinion is that Chiang Rai has much more to offer. Even on dull moments.

Sometimes a need for a psychiatrist is expressed in the most unexpected ways :D

Psychiatry seems not to be attractive as a specialisation for young doctors in Thailand.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I vaguely remember to have red in the Bangkok Post that Thailand counts less than five hundred psychiatrists.

I think doctors are seen purely as physicians. Especially in the rural area's mental diseases seem to belong to the territory of traditional medicin (of all kinds).

General practioners might limit themselves to the prescription of tranquillizers and anti-depressants.

If I would need a psychiatrist (no comments please :D ), I would contact Dr. Subin at the Kasemrad Sriburin Hospital. He is known to be a doctor who doesn't experiment. If he knows that another doctor is specialised in certain medical problems, he will refer to him/her.

Feeling better already?

Done the butter in the microwave thing, but unfamiliar with the word "tweeze", and too lazy to look it up. Hydrogen peroxide in the ears to melt ear wax is kinda fun. :o

Have a real good time folks. I hope the outcome will be LOVE ALL. :o

Try this . . Blink wildly and then close your eyes really tight for an interesting light show.

(Amusement Potential: 1-5 minutes)

See a variety of blobs, stars and flashes. :D Try to make out shapes and see if your subconscious is trying to send you a message (perhaps that funny shape is saying, 'send all your money to imagedude.com'?)

Is that physciatrist handy ? :D

any day, before 16.00 please. lets play

Sunday morning plz.. i need sun... hehehe

Allright boys?

Meetingpoint at 'Cafe des Sports', where Erg will brew some of his excellent cafe-au-laits, so that we quietly can prepare ourselves mentally for the match of all matches and this at the incredible early time of 8.30 am?

It would enable us to meet our magnificent, unsurpassable and unbelievable superb challenger at

9.45 pm at Mae Fah Luang University.

Limbo :o

PS Unknown_user: you know that 'farang' are always a little bit late. So it would be better to expect us to arrive not earlier than 10.00 am. Please In the Rai and unknown_user, confirm by PM to me.

Dear Chiang Rai expat tennisfriends,

The hot season is done for this year and the rainy season begins to loose its sting.

And, as we all know, after the rainy season comes the tennis season.

The racket and the balls aren't the problem mostly, but where to find a reliable partner (who actually shows up at the court) if you don't want to play against the wall?

To be sure a possible solution could be to have at least two (loosely) fixed tennismornings at the stadium. Please PM me if you are interested.

8:45am for a coffee first sounds like a plan. I will see you there!

Unknown user,

No matter how bad we are at tennis. It is to remain our secret. You must promise us that the results are not to be posted on this forum!
