Swimming Pool - Phuket

Hi

I am looking at a fibreglass pool approx. 2x6. Fully installed.

Read many threads on the topic Last entries are outdated. So thought I would post this in the Phuket Forum.

Since the co I am dealing with is in most cities in Thailand, any reference comments from the rest of Thailand are welcome.

The co. is the one near Toyota /bypass in Phuket. Aussie.

I am so far happy with the engineer who speaks good English, the price, and the pool.

I would really like to hear good and unpleasant stories from anyone who used this co.

(I do realize the results are mixed for any given co as read in the forums).

thanks.

by the way you have posted, it seems as though your sold on the company and fibreglass anyway , me personally ,a good concrete pool is the only way to go and it does not have to be expensive , you just need to find the right contractor ...

Well if you want some advice, don't buy anything from a Farang owned or managed company in Thailand.

You'll overpay and receive rubbish after sales service.

Also, find a company in Bangkok to do it. You'll save at least 30 to 40% compared to a local based company that has higher overheads and tend to be more greedy.

I saved 140k getting a Bangkok pool company to refinish my pool compared to the lowest Phuket quote.

That's my advice.

Perhaps if you weren't asking people to guess what company you were talking about you may get a few opinions. Personally I can't think of a pool company there.

But any opinions here would be from anonymous posters on an internet forum, and it's always possible these opinions could be from someone with an agenda.

You say you are "so far happy with the engineer who speaks good English, the price, and the pool."

Take a chance, how much could they stuff up installing a small fibreglass pool?

I agree.

Fibreglass pools have a short life expectancy. They don't last a decade.

+1 I build a concrete pool and use JD pools for the filter system, chemicals etc.

I would never consider a fiberglass pool.

They just don't last in the hot Thailand sun.

It's a cheap option for people on a budget but I'd go with a crappy above ground pool if I had to have a fibreglass pool. At least it's easy to toss away once the problems start.

Concrete or don't bother.

i disagree, i had a very good experience with a local contractor here ( farang) i built my own pool in a very remote ( isaan) location , i was supplied the know how and a quote for all the gear ( australian made filter /pump) , the price was excellent and everything was shipped to me on site .... i built a 35,000 litre mosaic tiled pool incl saltwater chlorinator , pump , light etc ...for less than 300k...incl digging the hole by hand ...so pm me if you want the details ...

My Thai ex foreman quotes what I consider to be obscene amounts for jobs to both Thai & farang & usually gets what he asks for. I have seen pool quotes from Thai companies for & they are always higher than what I would consider.

That's why I sourced from Bangkok. 30% cheaper than the lowest Phuket quote. My highest quote was from a Thai.

They drove down on a truck with all the equipment and labour and the tile selection was 5 fold compared to what's available here.

Unrelated but I had a Kitchen done the same way and it was half the price of what the quote was here.

It's gouging because it's Phuket.

Hi Folks,

I was under the impression that it was not allowed to quote names of companies.

I assume I was wrong.

The company is JD Pools in Phuket.

I do realize it is more costly that getting a concrete pool. But what the heck :) And at my age I don't need it to last 20 Years.

So, I do plan on signing their contract after they make all the changes I wanted put in.

I do appreciate everybody's input. Good cross section of comments.

Thanks.
