BANGKOK: -- The anti-graft agency yesterday urged the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) members to impeach former premier Yingluck Shinawatra in order to "make history together" by setting high ethical and moral standards for future leaders to follow.

Interior Minister visits waste disposal facility in Phathum Thani

PHATHUM THANI, 23 Jan 2015, (NNT) - Minister of Interior General Anupong Phaojinda visited a waste management company in Phathum Thani yesterday.


The company, Rakbaanrao, which generates power from wastes, is located in Thaklong Municipality. It is able to dispose of 120-150 tons of household waste daily, converting them into one megawatt of electricity everyday.

Currently the facility has accumulated over 50,000 tons of wastes, which it is supposed to dispose of by the end of this year in compliance with the province’s policy.

General Anupong later visited the waste separation factory of Don Muang Pattana Company in Lamlukka district of Phathum Thani. The facility handles 150 tons of trash from the nearby Thai Market daily, about 7 tons of which are recyclable.

PM’s Office to quickly implement 5 development projects in Narathiwat

NARATHIWAT, 23 Jan 2015, (NNT) - Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Suwaphan Thanyuwattana is set to implement 5 development projects for the Southern province of Narathiwat.


The Minister made the announcement yesterday during his visit to the province to inspect the works of governmental units . High on the agenda included the disbursement of 2015 budget, the assistance funds for rubber planters, the performance of the Damrongtham center, the performance of the provincial village and community fund projects, and 5 other urgent development projects of the Prime Minister’s Office itself.

The 5 projects included the installation of CCTV cameras in risky areas, the conservation of water sources and wild animals, the development of a manufacturing place for traditional Thai medicine in Chana District, the upgrade the quality of local teachers, and the support of the march band of Narathiwat High School.

The meeting also discussed a plan to establish the districts of Sungaikolok, Takbai, Waeng, Sukirin, Chanae, Muang Narathiwat, Yee-ngor, and Bajor as special economic zones.

According to Minister Suwaphan, Narathiwat has great potential to host special economic zones, especially in the border districts, which are the province’s economic areas.

He also lauded the local Damrongtham Center for its swiftness in dealing with the locals' complaints.

British political activist dies on Koh Tao

BANGKOK: -- The young woman, Ms Christina Annesley, also known in UK a political activist, was found dead on the same island where two British backers were murdered last year, according to the UK-based Mirror Online.

The BTS sky train service is now back to normal after slightly over an hour disruption due to power supply failure this morning.

The power supply problem at 8.30 am today stranded hundreds of commuters at stations

The power supply disruption happened at the line from Taksin to Bang Wa stations.

It was back on service at about 9.40 am.

Army Chief urges everyone to accept NLA's ruling

BANGKOK, 23 January 2015 (NNT)-Army Chief General Udomdej Sitabutr is asking everyone to accept the National Legislative Assembly (NLA)’s decision whether to impeach several politicians in the former government.


The Army Chief said he is not concerned about any political movements that might follow the NLA’s ruling since it is a legitimate process.

However, he added, the security unit will continue to monitor the situation and maintain peace. Both the Army and the police are working together in providing safety.

He urged everyone to accept the result as it would help the country move forward. The Army Commander also told any political activists to think twice before taking any action.

Nikom escapes impeachment

BANGKOK: -- The National Legislative Assembly Friday voted to reject impeachment against former vice Parliament President Nikhom Wairatpanich.


The NLA cast 95 votes to support the impeachment request of the National Anti-corruption Commission against Nikhom while 120 NLA members voted to reject the request.
