worgeordie Posted January 24, 2015 Share Posted January 24, 2015 Yes, I know plenty of it occurs on here,but I am looking for the fresh kind,to make jam ,pies or even rhubarb and custard. So has anyone seen any or know where to purchase some, a few months ago I bought some very good rhubarb at Makro Mae Rim,and used to see it in Rimping,but not for quite a while. Also anyone seen any frozen Apricots at any of the Makro's, I only really go to the one on Superhighway and they have not had any for quite a while,I know they have Peaches but they are not very good for jam,but make a nice Chutney. Rimping Promenada sells the frozen pack, 1kg. Since 6 months Makro HangDong no more have the frozen apricots (import from USA). So all must be imported from northern places which raises prices. But suggest you look around in about 8 weeks as that's when the weather warms up in Korea, no. quidnunc Posted January 25, 2015 Share Posted January 25, 2015 In America, a favorite dessert is strawberry-rhubarb pie. That's because their harvest partially overlaps. Every year there is rhubarb available from the Royal Project, but as noted above, the harvest is brief. So you have to keep an eye out for it. The rhubarb that was available at Makro came from Australia. I used to get those apricots, too. The problem was that they didn't sell well so I guess Makro 86'd them. That's for the small local peaches which tend to be a bit bitter but have a strong almond flavor. Probably an old and primitive variety. Later in the year come the delicious sweet peaches. Or at least they can be delicious if they're harvested when ripe. I had some last year and the were great. There's also an extended plum season with smaller, sourer varieties coming first.
