One way ticket for south african with work visa?

Recommended Posts

I have a south african friend who is a chef, he just got a job in Thailand at a restaurant. He already got his letter of employment and will apply for his non-O soon. What will he need for his application that he might not know/think of?

Can he book a one way ticket to Thailand, since he wont know when exactly he will stop working there, or will he have problems when atriving in bkk?

Any other advice for him on visa, flights and working as a chef in Thailand will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If the flights from south africa are the same as the UK a return is sometimes the same price as a single if not cheaper, also again in the UK insurance companies like a return ticket for travel insurance, look at something like 6 to 9 months and see if there is any difference, just 2 thoughts really,

oh would it be a non B

whistling.gif He probably will not have a problem with his visa into Thailand, and likely no hassles with the airlines as he has a valid visa.

However, he is NOT allowed to work in Thailand without a work permit.

Many people do not realize they can not work in Thailand with only a visa to enter Thailand.

They must have a work permit issued by the Labor ministry to work here legally.

I'll assume his employer is honest and will provide the required documentation once he arrives in Thailand to get that work permit as required.

It is not unknown, however, for an employer to delay submitting the paperwork for the work permit, and urge the employee to "just work temporarily until we get the work permit straightened out",

And that is illegal to do, because as a foreigner you can not legally work without a work permit.

Since you are then working illegally, you have no security in the job, or severance rights if you quit or are terminated.

Additionally, he should realize that his salary will probably be less here in Thailand than what he would expect for the same job in South Africa.

Living expenses will probably be less also, but his salary will be less.

It would be wise for him to know about such things before he arrives in Thailand.

Er cost of living between SA and Thailand is 6 of one, half a dozen of the other, ie they are pretty similar

Your also wrong on the severance etc without a WP, in cases like this the labour court is not really interested in whether one has a WP or not, there was a documented case on TV some years back

You friend will need a return ticket, the letter from the Employer in Thailand and Proof of his Qualifications, a Completed Visa Application form and Photo etc. Unless he can actually provide his ACTUAL Work Permit from the Thai Authorities presented here to the Thai Embassy during application for his Visa , he will have to have a return airticket and proof he can support himself in Thailand for the duration of the Visa.. Without the valid Visa, the Airline will also not BOARD him/her on a way one Ticket.

I suggest he/she contacts the Embassy before application by E Mail advising them of all the details. BUT A return ticket is necessary. I would also ensure that the Passport is still valid for a few years, take along record/letter of Previous employer, Proof of address/family in South Africa and Bank Statements showing sufficient funds for own support as there is not confirmed fully paid Accommodation Vouchers to present when applying for the Visa.. Getting a job offer and only a letter is not the same as having a Legal Work Permit. Also a job offer at a Restaurant will not be considered in the same light as a OFFICIAL job CONFIRMATION offer from a Reputable Hotel Chain such as Hyatt/Sheraton, Dusit Thani Group in Thailand. RESTAURANTS close down all the time. The embassy will also check the Restaurant via Authorities in Bangkok. Unfortunately, there has been abuse by Visa Applicants from various Countries having just Letters from some contact in Thailand to get

Visas for long stay and the job does not pan out and NO Work Permit guaranteed. Thai Authorities are wise to this and job offers are very thoroughly investigated. Hope this helps.

Er no he doesn't if he has been issued a non-imm visa and your opening "paragraph" you have contradicted yourself and a WP will not be issued until the person concerned is actually in Thailand, in cases like this they are not issued prior to arrival to support a visa application, as one needs a non-imm visa to be issued the WP in the first instance

Your posting completely incorrect information and that's only your first paragraph

Never mind the rest of your post

Beside what you wrote about WP is completely wrong, in case of no visa and no return ticket just use one of the methods from the thread below.
