An immigrant to me implies that you become a citizen with all the rights associated with it, something we cannot become without extreme difficulty. An immigrant to UK or us or Australia for example can qualify for a passport after a period of time.

I know that we could obtain Thai nationality, but not as easy

Considering that you reside in this country (Thailand) with entry granted on a non-immigrant visa, with extensions based on said visa, that should really answer your question......................
