BANGKOK: -- A MAN WHO broke into a house in Nakhon Pathom early yesterday raped an elderly woman and stole valuables - crimes that police believe are linked to nine other rapes.

Before the latest case came to light, police had already begun to focus on trying to catch the serial offender.

Most of his victims were aged in their 70s, and two were murdered.

"We will scour the area within a 10 kilometre radius from the latest crime scene in a bid to nail the culprit," Assistant National Police Commissioner Lt-General Sopon Pisuttiwong said yesterday.

He spoke after leading a team of officers to inspect the house of the latest victim, 73.

"We expect to arrest the suspect soon," Sopon said. He said evidence suggested the attacker may be the serial rapist police have been chasing.

On Saturday, police publicly |disclosed they were hunting the offender.

"According to his victims, he is about 170 centimetres tall and in his 40s. He is robust and strong," Sopon said.

Speaking from his home by a canal in Nakhon Pathom's Nakhon Chaisi district, the 43-year-old son of the latest victim said he slept in his paddy field yesterday because a pump was turned on.

"I was just about 300 metres away," he said.

He said he was deeply shocked when he saw his mother exit the house in tears in the middle of the night.

"She told me a man broke into the house, entered her bedroom, and raped her at knifepoint," he said, adding that the attacker stole valuables and killed the family's dog with poison.

He said the offender took a gold-framed amulet, a cell-phone and Bt5,000 in cash.

"My mother saw part of his face. He partially removed his hood during her ordeal," the son said.

So if he lives 11 kl outside the area,he has nothing to worry about !,

they should do a DNA test of all males in the suspects age range,in

the area, they have done this in a similar case in UK,where an elderly

woman was raped and killed, maybe this is too much to ask Thailand

to do.

It's a sick individual they preys on the elderly and vulnerable. Nothing funny about this whatsoever.

Sick individuals lurk amongst us. They're not always easy to spot.

Many years ago Sydney had a Granny Killer. The Thais should take note they might be surprised at who this may turn out to be.

Hopefully this granny killer ends up on the end of a rope as well, just as John Glover did. Hopefully aft that they end up in h e l l with a hot poker up their backsides. Mongrels.

This brings to light that there are many sick and twisted individuals out there.

The problem is what do you do with these people once they are apprehended? There are probably no ways of reforming them, society can never be safe while these people are on the loose, or should they just be locked up in cell for life and forgotten? Perhaps the death penalty, better for them, better for us.

I think about that, too. Perhaps it's simply a character defect in the culture... to not be committed to a standard or a purpose and to not see it through equally for everyone who fits the definition. In any circumstantial event, everyone seems to be too busy yapping at each other over what the other had just done instead of thinking about what got them there and why they chose that path, and to keep repeating it over and over again without any change of course the next time.

I am thinking about how the police will have him reenact every crime and protect him with body armor... to protect the criminal more than the victim... and perhaps even have him beg in front of the victims, and then he will plead guilty with some sob story, and we'll never hear about it again, and then next week another similar event will happen and it will begin all over again.

I feel bad for the victims in crimes like this, but I also feel deep anger that it does not seem to be lessening, but moreover increasing, and law enforcement handles it like it is a nuisance to their daily agenda of collecting... or surviving to perpetuate their existence.

...simply expressing my feelings and thoughts...

Submitting DNA in the UK is one thing, submitting it to Thai authorities is quite another.
