Chaiyaphum drought worsens

CHAIYAPHUM, 4 February 2015 (NNT) - The drought situation in the northeastern province of Chaiyaphum has not improved, as 10 districts in the northeastern province have been declared as disaster zones, provincial governor Vichein Chantaranotai.

The ten disaster-hit districts are Muang, Nong Bua Daeng, Khon Sawan, Bua Khao, Noen Sa-nga, Chatturat, Sap Yai, Nong Bua Rawe, Phakdi Chumphon and Kaeng Khro. Nine of these districts do not have sufficient water for agriculture but still have enough water for consumption.

However, people in Kaeng Khro are experiencing a shortage of drinking water as water from Lam Takhong Dam has yet to reach the district. As a result, tambon Tha Kham and tambon Na Nong Thung have shared their water supplies to mitigate the situation.

The provincial authority has sent water trucks and drinking water to people in drought-affected areas, as more groundwater is being pumped.

The Chaiyaphum governor insisted that off-season farming in the province is prohibited at this time because the amount of water is not be sufficient.

I read that there are requirements that in the future that the Thai administration become fully computerised and virtually paperless. In order to achieve this there is a certain requirement for planning, project coordination, management and accountability. If the Thai civil service/government cannot manage water resources properly (they have had a very long time to perfect this task) then to achieve the dream of a fully integrated paperless method of administration is 'just a dream'. The incompetance of a considerable number those that are in control of the Thai infrastructure seems to be boundless. Unless there is a total change in the mindset of theThai method of employment of decision makers from who you know/family/money to what you know/competance then Thailand will continue to turn in smaller and smaller circles until it finally dissapears up it's own anal orifice.
