I have seen lots of chatter, comments, opinion, complaints etc. regarding the July, 2014 announcement of new Thai Immigration policy allowing 30 day extensions for those who arrived to Thailand on 30-day visa waiver/extension.

But what I have not seen anywhere is actual documented reports of successfully accomplishing this.

So, has anyone actually gotten this mythical 30 day extension to their visa waiver? If so, where, and exactly what was required (I am ware of the stated requirements, 1900 baht, passport photo, onward travel within 30 days, photo etc.) but we all know actual practices in Thailand tend to vary quite a bit. I just want to know if this is for real or just a PR announcement that has yet to be implemented nationally.

I arrived recently with visa waiver and would like to renew in Koh Samui immigration office in a month. It would be nice to know if this is actually possible so I can make arrangements to run to Penang if I have to (but obviously would rather not!)

Thanks,

Lot of people have gotten the 30 day extension in the 5+ months it has been possible.

You will just need your passport. Copies of the photo page, entry/permit to stay stamp and your departure card. A completed TM7 applicatio form with a 4cm X 6cm photo attached to it. An the 1900 fee.

Samu will do them.

Ok thanks, I'll take your word for it. I just didn't want to go on day 28 and find out from the immigration officials that it would 50,000 baht or it can't be done or I'm dumb faring and don't know what I'm talking about, etc etc. and then have to make an emergency run to the border.

Regulation adherence seems to be an *ahem* challenge in this country so just wanted confirmation this policy is being followed at the local level.

Got 30 day extension on visa waiver at CW in September and that was having re-entered on a waiver having cleared an 11 year overstay some days previously. No mention of the overstay was made either, just completed the forms as detailed by UJ and paid the fee of 1900. So yes the 30 days extensions are being issued on visa exempt - based on my personal experience.

There have been many reports of some possible over charging for the extension from a few locations, Jomtien was one, but in general seems to be pretty routine. Personally in the past I did a 7 day extension by "proxy", i.e. I gave Key Visa the task and they charged a nominal fee and I had things the next day. Saved me the hassle of going to the immigration office.

I was in Chiang Mai Immigration office last week on other business and the waiting room was full of tourists getting 30 day extensions to their 30 day visa exempt entries. I talked with several of them. No problems, aside from the wait time of 3 hours or more to do the task.
