Accused Norwegian pedophile arrested in Pattaya
n18old.jpg

PATTAYA:--A 70-year-old Norwegian fugitive on the run from pedophilia charges was captured hiding out in Pattaya.

Svein Eirik Michelsen was captured Jan. 27 after being spotted on Walking Street. He is wanted on international fugitive lists for molesting underage girls and possession of child pornography.

Immigration police said Michelsen was a frequent visitor to Thailand, entering the country on Aug. 4 on a 30-day visa waiver stamp in his passport. He applied for a retirement visa at Chonburi Immigration and was approved Aug. 22.

He was then given permission to stay until November this year before immigration officers found out he was on an international alert list.

Should Thailand start asking for police CBR checks to accompany initial retirement visa applications? Wouldn't you want to know who you are allowing to live long term in your country?

I was just thinking exactly the same thing.

I’m surprised that as soon as he became a fugitive, details weren’t provided to Interpol. I mean in Thailand you are dealing with immigration police. They should have nabbed him when he entered the country on August 4.blink.png

If Thailand threw out all foreigners who had a criminal record somewhere the departures lounge at BKK would be full to bursting.

Personally I'm more bothered about the numerous scam artists allowed to live here running boiler-shops or becoming "financial advisers" and estate agents.

Amen to financial advisers. Why would someone hand over hard earned money to relative strangers (Thai word 'farang') Answer=greed and stupidity.

I dont put either above the other. What I said was that personally I am more bothered by people who are doing illegal things here than people who may have done illegal things elsewhere, especially as to my mind some countries have some very odd ideas about what is and isn't illegal, and the relative importance of various types of crime.

If I remember correctly, when I applied for my first retirement Visa, a police report from my home country was required. Visa renewals did not require it.

Bizarrely you have to get a police report to get a retirement visa outside of Thailand but not a retirement extension within Thailand.

As I mentioned, if anyone actually started checking the bona fides of all people with long visas and extensions the departure lounges would be full.

First the immeasurable pain he inflicted upon his defenseless and innocent victims comes to mind, who will have to bear and cope with these traumatic experiences the rest of their lives.

Secondly it is almost incomprehensible that a person derives such pleasure out of hurting and abusing young victims in order to satisfy his pathological needs.

And him being 70 years of age it runs shivers down my spine to even imagine how many lives he ruined before they even had a chance to start to blossom....

Just for a while, and if they get better at preventing them coming in, it would be a temporary inconvenience with a beneficial end!

It may be a little quieter on some of the more notorious streets, but that would be a good thing.

The boiler rooms and estate agents and pseudo lawyers and financial advisers could be then addressed!

if he was on an international wanted list ... do the thai aiports when you are at immigration, not have a passport reader that could do a quick check if one is on "the list" ?

Like in the club's where the bouncer says"your on the list your not coming in"slight misquote

Than an internationally wanted fugitive - child molester? Yikes - you might be as dangerous as him....I have 2 girls....glad they are taking out the (below) trash....and it's alot kinder than what would have happened to him if I caught him with my girls....

stealing a child's innocence and screwing their brain for life is more horrendous a crime than a corrupt scammer.

What a nice place Pattaya is , not to say that the rest of LOS is becoming more infested with scum every year in fact not just LOS but the world seems to be in a state at the moment of Madness.
