Hi all,

We have two rottweilers here in Thailand one who has been with us for 8 years and the other for about 3 years. In 3 to 4 months we will need to leave the country for about 1.5 years and we are not sure what to do with the dogs. We could leave them at the house and have someone come by twice a day and feed them but we feel this would not be in the best interest of the dogs. They very much like interacting with people. They play great with my 1 year old son and never bite.

We looked into taking them outside of Thailand and then back with us but this seems pretty costly. I did look at the boarding site that advertises here with the forum but the costs will be over 300,000 baht. That is more than shipping them out and back in.

Are their any other options? The male is of breading age so if anyone wants some Rott pups that might be the way to go.

Just looking for some ideas, this is a problem I don't want to have to solve at the last second.

Thanks.

Mate, really tough. you will have hard time trying to rehome rotties.

I would suggest to employ someone to live in and look after them

Yeah I know this is going to be a hard one. Also we do not really want to rehome them, just have someone watch them while we are away.

Yes paying some one full time just to take care of the dogs is an option we thought about but not what we really want to do if we can avoid it.

Thanks.

No other options, i doubt anyone would take them in for that long and if someone does, chances are they would not want to give them back :)

Have a live in maid to live with dogs, feed and walk them and also look after the house.

PS. What has happened with the car?

Yes, we could try and do that but I would rather not have anyone living in our new house. However if we must this is what we will end up doing.

I had to leave my house for almost two years. Rented it out to a guy from the states thought he was pretty normal.....total whakadoo......IF u do end up doing that give the person free rent....and get a substancial security deposit......have friends drop by on a weekly basis as well. I wpuld do it if it was in the right area.Good Luck

never mind what you do,they will miss you big time and you the same.

what k.is suggesting is the best option,it will have to be someone who is uncapable of working and just manages light work.

i see this every day not far from me but there again the single owner lives in.

i swore back 55yrs.ago if ever faced with a simular problem, although it would hurt me having to put them to sleep,it would hurt me more not nowing how they were being treated.

i feel for you as never mind what you do YOU WILL LOOSE SLEEP OVER IT.

good luck. meatboy.love me love my dog.

Take them with you. If you're gone for about 1 ½ years, the older one is likely to be close to 10 by the time you get back. Hope he's waiting for you.
Either find someone reliable here to give them to - no, not take care of but become the new owners of two good dogs - or take them with you.
The balance of costs versus hiring someone to live in your house and care for the dogs, with attendant worries about real care of house and dogs, against the cost of boarding, which is only a short term option, and against taking them with you, definitely lean towards the latter.
Besides, what can happen in that 1 ½ years that might delay your return?
Find the necessary cash and papers, and take them with you.
