Martial law still necessary under current situation

BANGKOK: -- Martial law is necessary and must stay to maintain peace and order, this is what a poll says.

Bangkok Poll conducted its latest survey of 1,120 people from all walks of live across the country after the military junta is still in power eight months after the coup.

The result revealed that 70.4% agreed that the military junta maintains the martisl law as it is necessary under the current political situation.

It also said 39.2% viewed that martial law could prevent untoward political rallies, while 31.2% said attempts to undermine peace still exist.

Asked whether the double bombings at Siam Paragon and Siam station were intended to defy martial law, 50.7% said yes, and 50.9% viewed political conflict and political rallies still exist in their provinces.

Martial law is here to stay till the red activists are reformed and understand what is good for Thailand and not only for their pockets or the pockets of their infamous leaders.

The Thai people have started already distancing themselves from these clowns as they have the brain to understand what they represent.

Of course there will be many farangs here concerned about martial law as they can't drink their beer at all times in the seedy bars they occupy.

What I have to say to them is...........Hard Luck.

I know it's hard for some to do two things at once but next time the director general shoots himself in the foot could he keep his foot in his mouth?

Actually according to statistics it can be done. Maybe you should study statistics, this is not my field but i played around a bit with the page i just posted and its amazing how low a sample you need.

With the current restrictive rules in place you may as well retain Marshall Law, with freedoms eroding on a daily basis it might have to stay as a permanent fixture , with Elections in the future and the people having less freedom than last May, the streets may well again ring to the chants of the disgruntled.

Actually, we have only achieved less than 60% in getting the country organised and to an acceptable position of stability, there is still lots to do, although we have limited corruption and many other crimes in the grand scale, we haven't even started to curb the smaller forms of corruption and other crimes which effect the people on an even grander scale then the huge corporation's when added together, I would say we need at least another 2-3 years of martial law. Wouldn't you?

It's not about beers or seediness. Why can't Thais get their act together and develop a democracy? Why do we have to listen to this General blockhead speak? Thais deserve better than this coarse, un-creative ex-military commander telling them how to live. Since the coup, I have to admit that it's nice to see innocent people, namely kids, not getting harmed or killed at the hands of protesters. (Remember that girly throw by someone caught on CCTV?) I didn't like the violence, but at least it was a process. What Thais have traded it in for is alarming: No free speech. Media censorship. Moral codes and mandates. Curfews. Attitude adjustments. Never mind the fact he wasn't even elected. He is so full of himself riding his magic carpet of self-righteous tunes "bringing happiness back to the Thai people" How ridiculous a campaign is that? He's so deluded he can't even see he's part of the problem.

It's not about how long bars stay open or whether or not I can look at girls dance semi-nude. (Thais enjoy this as a part of their culture, too) It's about having to live under this half-baked leader whose 15 minutes of fame ended a long time ago.

But then it may well be them that start to push for change, not for the first time.

No it isn't. The UK, a similar sized population to Thailand also samples around 1,100 people in election polls to guage people voting intentions. It is a sample size big enough to get a representative view of the whole population.

But of course, you can skew the results if you only poll for example, only men, only over 60's, only in certain parts of the country. But surprising as it may seem 1,100 is a large enough sample in statistical terms.

suggestive polling, who cares. Not even worth the news ! may be thaey should ask farangs. better results.

I know your hearts in the right place and you want Thailand peaceful, however this isn't the way to do it. This just sets an example for future general's to carry out the perfect coup. It's a never ending cycle.

I'm no fan of the red's but instead of taking over with an iron fist, they should've been working with the government in power to protect the Thai people. You may be a fan of the PM but next time you maybe not so lucky, but the Thai people will have no say, so again they'll just have to lump it.

Yeah, let's hope the greek military stages a coup and reform all those ignroant people protesting .

Greece , like Thailand, needs a strong army and martial law not freedom and democracy. Pensions should be abilished and poor Greeks should take care of themselves , if they have nothing to eat, they can die, and if they protest they should be reformed (tortured and killed).

Greece, Thailand, Mynamar, Haiti,North Korea and Somalia should be the examples . The world doesn t need those corrupt westerner democracies ,look at the mess democracy created in Canada, new Zealand, Nroway, Sweden, Australia, Netherlands, Switzerland.

May the powerful army saves Thailand and Greece to become like those corrupt and chaotic democracies and install order and discipline like in Myanmar, Somalia, North Korea and Haiti.

God these threads about polls are damned boring, always descend into a statistics slinging match.

Constant martial law is just a sign of paranoia and ineptitude. It makes a popular elected government and unbiased judiciary look like a mirage.

Makes it easier, to just become part of China. Raise the flag.
